A stunning debut thriller in the best-selling tradition of Scott Turow and John Grisham!

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars. Alex agrees to take on Ohlig's defense.

Through the course of two trials, secrets are revealed that force Alex to question whether any of the people in his life are who they appear to be. Most importantly, he must decide whether the identity he projects to the world is the man he truly is or even wants to be.

With its powerful voice, pause-resistant tension, and strong cast of characters, A Conflict of Interest will captivate listeners right up to its electrifying conclusion.

Critic reviews

"This outstanding first novel follows Defense Attorney Alex Miller and his young family through the grinding world of high-priced criminal defense in New York City, detailing what can happen to an otherwise nice guy. David LeDoux's minimalist narration style works well. He imbues all the characters with a distinctive sound and unique persona." (AudioFile)
"More twists than a California cloverleaf interchange." (Bookreporter)
"This gifted writer should have a long and successful career ahead of him." (Publishers Weekly)

Great book

I'm not much into fiction books but this one popped up on the front page of audible.com so i read the review and bought the book. Two days later a I was done with the 10 or so hours of audio. This is quite an accomplishment since it typically takes me around a month to finish any book. The plot kept me tuning in at any chance I got. The guy that read it did a very good job, I wish I could have him read all the audio books that I buy. It was well written too. All around a very good buy.

Great New Author.

I'll admit I give up on so many audiobooks due to my tendency to allow my mind to wander. If a story doesn't grab me in the first 10 minutes, I am done with it. Not so with A Conflict of Interest. It got me right away and held my attention until the very end. The narrator was great but it is the author that deserves the praise. I look forward to Mr. Mitzer's future work.

Very good!

What made the experience of listening to A Conflict of Interest the most enjoyable?

It was a pleasantly written story with enough technical information to keep it interesting but not too technical. It was a good story. I found it entertaining yet real from a legal standpoint, with enough twists to keep the listener on their toes! Will watch for this authors next one!

Twistier Than A Twizzler

OK... during the read I kept muttering, "Damn! Didn't see that coming!"

Mitzner's plotting is magnetic. You know, the kind of story that keeps you listening in the driveway after the ride home? This story will create an interest that will conflict with whatever else you've got to do besides listen to the next part. It's hard to believe that the guy who started out with this novel fell so far apart with his next, "A Case Of Redemption." I'm glad that I gave Mitzner another chance with this novel but I'm still sorry I read the just barely redeemable succeeding book from this guy,

David LeDoux reads this gaggle of conundrums invisibly... which is to say he never intrudes, yet presents powerfully, which is an impressive talent. Conundrums? Over and above the essential legal mysteries here, the theme swirls around questions of family, fidelity, culture, and society's rules regarding actions and consequences. It's provocative questions will haunt you yet not subtract from the entertainment values.

What a debut!

What did you love best about A Conflict of Interest?

I was enthralled by this novel. The legal description is very good without under estimating the reader's knowledge. The character development is superb especially because of the first person perspective. And finally, the narration is absolutely perfect! As I read, I continuously marveled over this being a first novel. It's so well done, it may be hard for Mitzner to repeat.

Like reading John Grisham

Liked the characters and the tension; Loved the corporate law issues as well as the criminal law; As good a read as a Grisham novel.

Clever

Thought provoking. Mysteries among mysteries. Does the end justifies the means? What is justice? Justice for whom. The big gray area is always so much more muddy down the black and white. So many more ups and downs in the uncertainty of the Greatness. Clever twists and clever turns. Some quite predictable get even with the predictability there is much to think about and it is what goes on in the characters mind, some of which is shown by their actions and some of which is not which makes one want to read this book to the Very end. It is a disturbing story in that her provokes want to think about ones Life, what is right and what is wrong. This book could also be considered a book about self-improvement, psychology, marital relations, the law, And so much more.

Generally I like the Narraters narration, it was difficult for me to envision him saying the things that the first person character would say. I couldn’t envision Anyone in the book speaking like the narrator,It’s still an acceptable Narration.
