But Emily's teenage daughter Jenna is one step ahead of her...are planted in...Jenna knows the boy suspected of murdering his family and wants to help him – perhaps too much. Then another family is butchered, this time in Iowa. And on the heels of this brutal slaying, another follows in Salt Lake City. Eerie similarities link the crime scenes. But an even darker connection threatens to claim even more victims.

As Emily fits the puzzle pieces together, she realizes the danger surrounding her daughter is worse than she'd imagined. Now, in a desperate race to save Jenna, Emily must match wits the most cunning, diabolical killer she's faced yet in her career – a killer who just placed her and her daughter on the top of the list..

"A Cold Dark Place deserves better reviews"
Where does A Cold Dark Place rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With over 500 audiobooks in my library it would be difficult to place this one. Not at the very top or bottom but somewhere in the middle.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Emily Kenyon

What does Kevin Foley bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kevin Foley did a great job with this especially since the main character is a woman.

    Any additional comments?

This book has gotten some poor and mediocre reviews on both Audible and Amazon and I'm not sure why. I actually listened for some of the discrepancies mentioned (blonde hair/brown), only to hear that the girl colored her hair out of a bottle. If people would listen the story may have unfolded with a little more fluidity. I thought this was a really good fast paced book, well written, believable and completed with talented narration. This is worth the credit!

    "Don't waste your credit!"
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kevin Foley?

I don't think anyone, not even Scott Brick, could have made this book better!

    Any additional comments?

At first I thought this book was bad because they chose a male narrator even though the main character is a female (and most of the others) however the more I listened the more I realized how bad the writing really is! I couldn't believe some of the dialog between characters. The main character was whiny, illogical, and the dialog so cheesy it made me angry. I'm not sure who should be more ashamed, the writer or me for actually listening!

"AN INTERESTING STORY IF A BIT CONVOLUTED"
What did you love best about A Cold Dark Place?

I like the ongoing action. No lulls or gaps. I liked the way the story went to past events during the story then tied them all together.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Cold Dark Place?

The son turning out to be as twisted as the father. That was no only surprising, it was unbelievable.

Have you listened to any of Kevin Foley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I will in the future. His reading was excellent. There were times in the begining of the story I was ready to give up, but his voice triumphed and I finished the story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Emily reliving how she shot a psycho and caused a little girl's death

    "Stereotypical characters; flat narrator"

I cannot get past chapter 4 of 39.

The characters, including the main character seem like cardboard stereotypes.

But the worst aspect of this audiobook for me was the narrator. I don't know why I cannot stand him. He has a pleasant, even voice, and clear pronunciation, but he sounds like the reader for a commercial or an announcer for a special offer on TV. This is a murder mystery and a kind of (I'm guessing, but I only got to chapter 4) thriller, and the narrator read EVERYTHING in his pleasant, even voice with clear pronunciation as if this were an ad for a coffee maker.

I purchased it a few months ago and saved it to listen to later. By the time I listened, it was too late to return this audiobook. I would've returned it after the first hour of listening.

    "Predictable"

The plot was predictable and I found it odd they choose a male reader when the book had leading female charactors.
