Publisher's summary

Enter the world of the Pendleton: The original owner became a recluse - and was rumored to be more than half mad - after his wife and two children were kidnapped in 1896 and never found. The second owner suffered a worse tragedy in 1935, when his house manager murdered him, his family, and the entire live-in staff....

Craftsmen and laborers working on renovations disappear or go mad....

For years, the Pendleton is a happy place, until a bad turn comes again....

Voices in unknown languages are heard in deserted rooms, everywhere and nowhere....

Disturbing shadows move along walls but have no source....

Images on security monitors show strange places that exist nowhere in the building or its grounds....

A young boy talks of an imaginary playmate - who turns out to be terrifyingly real....

A figure like a man but clearly inhuman is glimpsed in the courtyard gardens at night and in other locales, perhaps a hoaxer of some kind, seemingly oblivious of those who see it - until it suddenly takes an interest in one of them....

Too long

struggled to finish and confusing as anything! Love Dean Koontz, though! Just very wordy.

This book has it's moments...

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or Peter Berkrot?

I have read many books by Dean Koontz and usually they are amazing.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The moments where Dean Koontz delves into the history of the street or even the future events are very interesting. The book jumps the shark in several key moments in the plot which only leaves the reader feeling disappointed at what could have been.

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed when the 1870 family would appear.

Do you think 77 Shadow Street needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

NO.

Any additional comments?

This book is disappointing. I would probably still waste a credit on it because I love Dean Koontz and the premise of this book is very interesting...so even if a reviewer was saying it was awful I would still take my chances but just be prepared that it won't be the best use of your credits.

Excellent!

Dean Koontz is the master and this is another hit! It is set up for a sequel, I hope he writes one.

Entertaining - and easy one...

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or Peter Berkrot?

For sure, busy buying another Dean Koontz one now. Peter Berkrot did a good job, though admittedly I compare all narrators to the Ron Perlman when he did the The Strain - which was brilliant. Mr Berkrot did a good job, his voice changes per character help identify who;s who in heavy dialogue - without overacting their parts.

If you’ve listened to books by Dean Koontz before, how does this one compare?

Works well as an audiobook. The plot is unchallenging, so don't expect any thing more than a good ride. Perfect to listen to when stuck in traffic without incurring a fender bender.

Could you see 77 Shadow Street being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Odd, i did think this could become a TV series, though limited to a 10 episode single season. The plot's unchallenging enough and bounces equally between characters for it to be comfortably cast with B-Grade actors.

Any additional comments?

There are some tough reviews on this book, but if you can just enjoy it for what it is (a typical Koontz yarn), then it's worth the download.

It was a great book, but the ending didnt make much sense. I am huge Koontz fan though.

Not his best

Struggled to keep everything straight, to many characters, with too many stories, and the time sync made it really confusing.

a decent listen

I think the chapters with The One are overkill.
the narrator does a good job at adding subtle differences to the character voices

hit or miss

Would you listen to 77 Shadow Street again? Why?

As with most Dean Koontz books they are hit or miss this is a hit, not a 5 star but a solid 3 plus so i gave it a 4, some parts are pretty funny, in that D.K sort of way.

What other book might you compare 77 Shadow Street to and why?

sort of like the Langoliers by s. King

ehhh.

drug on way to long with many unnecessary details that made the book longer, but not needed to develop the story
