A fate worse than death.

It's all part of his sick game. A game he's been planning for an entire decade. Now everything is perfect: one woman and one man have been selected. They used to be a couple - and they can no longer stand one another. They are the perfect victims. He doesn't intend for the game to be easy. He wants to push them to the brink of insanity, to make his hunt real....

A desire worth fighting for....

The couple has been captured and dumped into a massive wooded area. There's only one rule in this fatal game: They will have 72 hours to find a way out before the sadistic serial killer begins his hunt. But what he never could have expected was the explosive passion that ignites between the two ex-lovers - one that makes them strong. Fierce. And determined to do whatever it takes to escape - and to survive. Contains mature themes.

Would you survive?

Survival romance...what a scary situation. Really enjoyed this suspense and adrenaline filled story, especially Joe's level of crazy.

So much suspense with just a splash of spice. So so good!

1st person/multi pov
Spice: 2/5

I really enjoyed this story. It was definitely more suspense to me than romance which is perfectly fine. (Just giving a heads up to those who may expect/want a little more steam with their romance.)

I was hooked before the book even started because of the blurb alone. Then I hit play and from the get go I was so engrossed in the story I had a hard time pressing pause. The story is told mostly in Lara’s pov and Maxine did a wonderful job with it. I will say that Lara’s character in the beginning really annoyed me. She seemed so whiny and almost immature in some ways. I wasn’t sure what to make of Noah though. He was so persistent about Lara hearing him out that I honestly wondered if I wanted to hear him out or if he was just trying to manipulate her somehow. Basically I was on the fence about both of them. But once I heard Joe speak and realized he was playing the killer’s pov it didn’t matter what I thought about the two main characters anymore. I had to see this through to the end because I can’t pass up having the killers pov!

Once I got farther into the story the two main characters started to grow on me. I could see how the situation they were in was slowly changing them as well as bringing the truth between them to the surface. Lara had to fight to get back to her old self and was there to help her do it. Soft when he needed to be and firm when Lara needed that extra push.

Then you have a killer who seems to be all knowing and always one step ahead. He’s smart and dangerous but also enjoys playing with his victims. Constantly questioning what he would do next had me biting my nails and feeling that fear they were experiencing. As it all comes down to that final moment where they live or die I wasn’t sure how this ending was going to go. I will say that it wasn’t exactly as I expected but I still enjoyed the outcome nonetheless.

Overall it was a great book and another great performance by this duo. I am definitely going to be checking out more of this authors books because of this one.

Way too much whiny inner monologue

Honestly, wish I could have finished it. I could listen to the guy day yeah, the woman’s inner monologue is so whiny and the narrator does that perfectly I just couldn’t listen to it.

Great Gotcha story

This was a good and creepy story. Gave me chills at times. The authors imagination is a little creepy too but hats off to Bella Jewel for all the goosebumps.
Narration was great as well.

Awesome story

I loved the idea of a quarreling ex-couple being taken and thrown into being hunted by a psychopath. Lara and Noah were the ex-couple. Lara thought Noah had cheated on her and left him. Bryce is the psychopath that stalked them and assumed they would fight during the hunt and be an easy kill. He was wrong.

Lara used to be tough. Used to stand up for herself but because of traumatic events lost herself and Noah became determined that while they are thrown into this horrific situation, he was going to get Lara back to her original self.

There were issues with this plot. A few things happened that were so far out of the realm of realistic possibilities that it left me shaking my head. I don't want to give spoilers, but you'll know.

However, the narration is what made this a more than awesome listen. For one thing, Joe Arden playing the psychopath, Noah. I love Joe's narration but I have always said he would make an awesome bad guy and I was write. He was so creepy that he sent chills down my spine with the way he would call out for Lara and Noah. Maxine Mitchell is always perfection but especially while playing Lara. She had the perfect self deprecating tone that made Lara a realistic character.

Ohhhh I really liked this one! This is probably one of the better thriller reads I have read by Bella, because it has been awhile since I've read her. Loved the narration too.

MEH....

I wanted to love this book. I felt like there were so many opportunities to make the story more interesting and exciting and expand on the experience of being hunted. In the end it was just okay, not really boring, had interesting parts, but not amazing either. Joe Arden and Maxine MItchell are always a great pair, I love how they bring the story to life. Good choice of narrators, it saved the story.

Thrill ride

This is such and intriguing story. It reminded me a lot of the old classic "The Most Dangerous Game". I would consider this 2/3rds survival/ thriller story and 1/3rd second chance romance.

Lara and Noah are two exes who constantly Bicker. Lara once a mouth and confident woman lost her spirit after her fiery attitude caused her to lose someone she loved. Noah is a firefighter. Because of her loss, she started to feel less than, which resulted in the end of their relationship. They spend the most of the first part of the story bickering. This attracts the attention of our killer who drugs and captures them. He then takes them to a Florida forest and hunts them like animals.

I liked the dual perspectives. I also like that it is the killer and the and Lara that speaks. We don't hear from Noah until the end. It was a good glipse into the killer's though process. I only wish there had been more about the killer's back story and about them being on the news. That was kind of unexplained.

Great narrators, especially Joe Arden. Whenever he read the killer's part. It sent chills up my spine. Now That's acting.
