Publisher's summary

After losing one of its own, Lindsay Boxer and the Women's Murder Club make a courageous return for their fourth and most chilling case ever, one that could easily be their last. A young girl is killed in crossfire after a routine arrest goes terribly wrong, and Lt. Lindsay Boxer has to defend herself against a charge of police brutality. In a landmark trial that transfixes the nation, Lindsay fights to save her career and her sanity.

While awaiting trial, Lindsay escapes to the beautiful town of Half Moon Bay, but the peaceful community there is reeling from a string of unspeakable murders. Working with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay finds a link between these killings and a case she worked on years before: an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since. As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay battles for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax; and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings, including killing again. It all comes to a head before the big annual 4th of July celebration on the waterfront at Half Moon Bay. Patterson fine-tunes the tension like never before in this heart-racing new novel in the best-selling detective series to debut in years.

Great story

Lindsay Boxer is a great character, and I love her murder club friends. The narrator does a great job with the performance, and the author spinned another great story.

Now it's getting on track.

What made the experience of listening to 4th of July the most enjoyable?

This is the one that I originally started with about five years ago that brought me into the series. It is still a very entertaining story. There is violance, but it is absolutely necessary to the storyline. The gratuitious sex and bigotry have been really toned down and no longer interrupt the flow of the plot. I am anxious to start # 5.

What was one of the most memorable moments of 4th of July?

It is all in the twist and revelation. Don't spoil it for others.

What about Carolyn McCormick’s performance did you like?

Most of her voices are distinct and easy to follow.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

They don't invite me to "reality" farces because I don't make a fool of myself over every little thing. However, in the last ten chapters I had a hard time putting the book down, which is about as intense as it gets for me.

Any additional comments?

Once again the mood music covers the narration in places.

Could not finish

I download this book and another prior to taking an 18 hour drive. I listened to the first book and put this book in after its conclusion, however I was only able to list to the first 2 hours before I simply put the first book in again and just re listened to it. This book was confusing and in my opinion just not interesting. Maybe the story line would of gotten better if I had of given it more time however, after driving for many hours during the middle of the night, the book must grab my attention and keep it and this book did not. I attempted to listen to it at a later time and the love was still not there.

Wow..had me guessing!

I can't say I didn't struggle to listen two part of it but it got much better as it went along. I loved that it had me guessing until the end end I never suspected what was going to happen. I hate when I'm able to figure out the ending and I never saw this one coming. Love that;)

I love the womens murder club series! The character development is wonderful. This one was very emotional for me. It made me mad at parts, happy, sad and anxious. Very good book!

A witty fun read

It’s my first James Patterson book read. It’s well paced and authentic in its descriptions of various scenes . A very surprising ending, I was never bored reading it
