Publisher's summary

Detective Lindsay Boxer is jogging along a beautiful San Francisco street when a fiery explosion rips through the neighborhood. A town house owned by an Internet millionaire is immediately engulfed in flames, and when Lindsay plunges inside to search for survivors, she finds three people dead. An infant who lived in the house cannot be found; and a mysterious message at the scene leaves Lindsay and the San Francisco Police Department completely baffled.

Then a prominent businessman is found murdered under bizarre circumstances, with another mysterious message left behind by the killer. Lindsay asks her friends Claire Washburn of the medical examiner's office, Assistant D.A. Jill Bernhardt, and Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas to help her figure out who is committing these murders, and why they are intent on killing someone every three days.

Even more terrifying, the killer has targeted one of the four friends who call themselves the Women's Murder Club.

Oooh I like it!

This is my favorite of the three Lindsay Boxer books. The subject is fascinating, and intertwining of Lindsay's personal life with work, and the descriptions of the City, are just great. My only complaint with the narration is the inconsistencies in accents - in the prior narrations Claire had a southern accent and Jill had none, it was reversed for this reading. Otherwise, I like the soothing voice and it is not overdone.

A rollercoaster of emotions

A prediction of what has happened recently? I don’t know when this book was written but definitely before Jan 6. Loved having Joe be introduced!

I’m loving the series BUT

I am really enjoying this series but in this book there is the background musical sounds, weird voice bot, and a ticking around chapter 78 that really annoyed me. I had to skip until it was over missing parts of the book. I thought I bought the version that didn’t have this and it ruined it for me. I really enjoy the narrator and main character though at times I feel she is a bit fake. But overall I’m hooked to the series. Hopefully the next one won’t have the background noises.

Good addition to the series.

I liked the story. However, it didn’t seem finished. The first 2 books in the series left the impression that she was African American. In this book she seemed not. Let’s see what book 4 brings. I like her as African American. Lindsey is a great character. The characters, Claire and Cindy are also good characters. I enjoy their personalities.

Much better than the last.

Much better. The story is excellent. The musical instrumentals are much better placed and not throughout the story. Thank you for the change! The narrator is much better!!!

A great story

Once again James Patterson and Andrew Gross have done it. Written a suspenseful book about the murder club that keeps you laughing and crying at every turn! Lindsay finds herself in the middle of the spot. Definitely worth the time to read!

Agree—stop the sound effects and music

Good story. But found the music to be annoying. Not only because it was there, over the narration, but because it was cheesy, superficial, and sometimes totally out of sync with the tone of the narration and distracting.
