Publisher's summary

This presentation features an exclusive special introduction by James Patterson.

Master of suspense James Patterson continues the Women's Murder Club series with this sequel to 1st to Die.

The sensational killings that have rocked San Francisco appear to be unrelated except in their brutality. But detective Lindsay Boxer senses there's some thread connecting them all. She calls her friends in the Women's Murder Club together to see if they can discover what it is.

Working with Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas, Assistant District Attorney Jill Bernhardt, and medical examiner Claire Washburn, Lindsay discovers that there is indeed a link. Each of the victims had a close relative in a particular profession, a profession that sends a chill through Lindsay's heart.

The partners in the Women's Murder Club deduce where the killer is likely to strike next and bait a trap that can't be resisted. But if their calculation is wrong, the consequences will be lethal. And there will be no second chance.

Story okay, performance not great

Melissa Leo may be a good actress but I struggled listening to her record an audiobook. Jeremy Piven was better but it was unnecessary to have two voices reading. The plot was similar to the first of this series - female detective guesses the wrong killer at first only to walk into a showdown with the real killer at the end. There was also little to no explanation of the motive of the real killer, I'm still scratching my head as to why this ended with the killer it did.

LOVED!!!

Loved the story but didn't like the guys voice. It was too casual for the role. The story was still great though. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

Narrator leaves something to be desired.

I enjoyed the story. The narrator doesn't do a good job of differentiating character voices.

Narration

Good story, bad narration. It took away from the story by the way, the narrator spoke.

I love the friendships

I love the friendships & the women who are making their way in the world supporting each other. I don’t know how I feel about the narrator but I’m warming to her.

The story continues..

I read 1st to Die and loved it. I was thrilled to come across the next novel in the series, and this story was even better. The narrator was also better for this book.

The characters in "The Women's Murder Club" have become so endearing. I feel like they are friends of mine. They have very distinct personalities and it adds so much to the story. It's more than just a good mystery - which it is - it also held my interest in wanting to know what happens to them. Patterson is on to something with this series, and I hope it continues.

Classic Patterson

Patterson delivers another great work of suspenseful twists and turns so I gave it four stars (and did not penalize for the performance of the narrator). Great characters continue from "1st to Die".

Sadly, the narrator that recorded "1st to Die" did not continue on this novel. The narrators severely detract from the novel. I stuck it out because I got hooked on the plot and liked the book, but the voice & acting was annoying...sometimes even hard to make out what they were saying. Hopefully someone will give this work a second chance and re-record it. But if you like Patterson, it is still worth it.

Missed the prior narrator, good story though

Where does 2nd Chance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not at the very top but this story really kept me interested. Different clue took different twists through the story.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting was when she visited the prison. That really kept me on edge. The least interesting was Cindy's dating life,

What about Melissa Leo and Jeremy Piven ’s performance did you like?

Jeremy Piven was born to do this. His voice was entrancing and I thought fit the character very well. Melissa Leo was OK but I could never tell which woman was speaking. I wish they would have used the first narrator again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I can't tell, it would give too much away
