Publisher's summary

Four women - four friends - share a determination to stop a killer who has been stalking newlyweds in San Francisco. Each one holds a piece of the puzzle: Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector in the San Francisco Police Department, Claire Washburn is a medical examiner, Jill Bernhardt is an assistant D.A., and Cindy Thomas just started working the crime desk of the San Francisco Chronicle.

But the usual procedures aren't bringing them any closer to stopping the killings. So these women form a Women's Murder Club to collaborate outside the box and pursue the case by sidestepping their bosses and giving one another a hand.

1st to Die is the start of a blazingly fast-paced and sensationally entertaining new series of crime thrillers.

Bad narration

I really liked the story line of the book but hated the narrator. Her inflections of the main character were overdone and unnecessary. It almost made me stop listening.

a thriller extraordinaire!

Just the moment I was certain to have figured out "who done it" , an entirely different and surprising twist evolved. Talking about suspense to the end! This is my second Patterson book and definitely not my last.

A Female version of Alex Cross books!

Where does 1st to Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is a great read and a wonderful beginning to the Women's Murder Club. 1st to Die is suspenseful, funny and sad all at once. I wanted to listen to it all in one day!

interesting

If you could sum up 1st to Die in three words, what would they be?

character driven mystery

Any additional comments?

sexual violence is difficult to read. Characters were dynamic though. It's a toss up.

Narration overly dramatic for my taste

I'm a big James Patterson fan and was looking for a series in which to bury myself. The story was ho hum. Not the gripping mystery I was hoping for. This book just didn't hit the mark for me. And the narration wore on me. Too overly dramatic. I almost quit the book more than once. Wanted to love it but just couldn't get there.

The good old days.

the narrator was excellent. Everything was great. this is the good old days of Paterson and other great thriller writers even fantasy and horror writers.
I got a whole book. I stand alone book. even though this is a series of books about the Women's Murder Club, I got the full story of this case from the beginning to the end. I did not get stopped in the middle and have to buy another but just so I can finish the one that left me hanging right slap in the middle of the action. and, for a book at the time it was written, it was unabridged.
I have a review that I'm trying to figure out what to do on a different book because it made the mistake of leaving me like right in the middle of the story. I can't wait to hear the second one I hope that the books stay the way they are and get a whole story out of everyone. I've actually played games based on these stories and each game finishes so I'm hoping that the stories are the same.

the narrator was excellent. she did male voices convincingly and I got so lost in the story I laughed and cried . I had a great and wonderful time. if you like mysteries and thrillers, then you'll like this book I think. as a group of strong women. I like that too. Anyway, it's the real thing and can ask more than that. if you get more than that you're a lucky reader. good reading and good luck. Blessed be.
