Publisher's summary

Four women - four friends - share a determination to stop a killer who has been stalking newlyweds in San Francisco. Each one holds a piece of the puzzle: Lindsay Boxer is a homicide inspector in the San Francisco Police Department, Claire Washburn is a medical examiner, Jill Bernhardt is an assistant D.A., and Cindy Thomas just started working the crime desk of the San Francisco Chronicle.

But the usual procedures aren't bringing them any closer to stopping the killings. So these women form a Women's Murder Club to collaborate outside the box and pursue the case by sidestepping their bosses and giving one another a hand.

1st to Die is the start of a blazingly fast-paced and sensationally entertaining new series of crime thrillers.

Very Annoying Reader, Predictable Storyline

I would not recommend this novel. The story was pretty predictable but what really made it difficult to get through was the narration. I kept expecting to here dramatic music in the back ground...

What does Suzanne Toren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The right amount of enthusiasm and realistic action through here ability to read and capture the audience.

Easy read, excellent concept

This was a nice, easy, and enjoyable read. I will definitely be following this series as I really like the characters and a myriad of different plot schemes will work in this format. Worth the credit. Narration was great for the female characters. ...the antagonist. ....not so much.

can't write a strong female lead

Clearly James struggled to write a strong female character. female cops everywhere are cringing. There's no crying at the crime scene and if the first murder is the worst they've ever seen or could imagine, wow. Lame.

Wow!

This narrator is phenomenal and the book was excellent! I can't say anymore without giving things away, other than I very much enjoyed it start to finish.

Kept me guessing

Enjoyed it... loved the turns... I am pretty good at figuring out who the killer is but the author was able to keep going in the direction he wanted and kept me guessing. This was the first book I had read from this author I look forward to the next book.

Couldn't get past the first two chapters

Too gory, too much crude language. There are many excellent mystery authors that don't resort to profane language. This isn't for me.
