Publisher's summary

Detective Lindsay Boxer chases an elusive suspect...her husband.

As she settles in to motherhood and a happy marriage, Lindsay Boxer thinks she has found domestic bliss. But when a beautiful, alluring blonde woman with links to the CIA disappears from the scene of a brutal murder at a downtown luxury hotel, Lindsay's life begins to unravel. Before she can track down the woman for questioning, a plane crash plunges San Francisco into chaos, and Lindsay's husband, Joe, vanishes. The deeper she digs, the more Lindsay suspects that Joe shares a secret past with the mystery blonde. Thrown into a tailspin and questioning everything she thought she knew, Lindsay turns to the Women's Murder Club for help as she tries to uncover the truth.

Filled with pulse-pounding international intrigue, 15th Affair proves that all is fair in love, war, and espionage.

Meh.

I can't believe I didn't like this one, but I didn't. It was formulaic and overly-dramatic in the same way that Scooby-Do mysteries unfold: Begin with the crime that will be solved; introduce the Women's Murder Club by getting them together at their favorite bar; clues unfold while Lindsay's personal life starts unraveling and she asks herself a succession of questions. Why haven't I ever noticed that Lindsay's inner dialogue is 3 questions? What could be the point of that? Who else might have seen this pattern in the previous 14 books?

I felt it was the overly dramatic interpretation in the narration that pointed out this weakness in the writing. (Also: Yuki and Cindy sounded like squeaky airheads, not strong characters in the life of a strong woman.) The abrupt ending --left open with a question mark-- makes me think our authors simply don't care any longer.

Overall: meh.

JUST AWFUL

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

No one

Has 15th Affair turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from 15th Affair?

I would give the main character back her testosterone!

Any additional comments?

It is so full of out of place cliche's to the point of annoying. And the lead character who used to be a great San Francisco cop is not nothing more than a whiney soap opera character. Nothing can save this book...and I read all 14 previous books and liked every one of them.

The end of the Lindsey road for me

Way to far fetched. No real story depth with plane crash. Relationship with Joe makes her a 1950s wife- needy and forgiving. Also not much of a mom character. Good bye Murder Club.

Time for WMC to disband.

Way over the top, juvenile, boring, disappointing. Struggled to finish & wasted a credit!

Not a favorite!

Go back to "original women's murder club" story lines. Won't be waiting for #16 like I waited for this one. And #14 wasn't like the previous ones either.

Unlucky Readers #15 is a Deadly Sin

I used to love this series when all 4 of the women were involved in a storyline. More depth is needed with a situation in which all women are involved. Now the stories are a soap opera about Lindsey and Joe. I actually spaced out a couple of times while listening and didn't miss anything. Their baby Julie gets just as much attention as Martha the dog. Boring...

Claire is only found in a morgue or around a dead body. She has a husband and what is going on with her baby? Sookie did little and only made 2 appearances in this story. The journalist and Boxer's partner are in a relationship. We only know that they sleep, actually sleep, together. No passionate sex, secret trysts, arguments about not providing inside scoops on stories. Boring...

Finally, there are so many questions and loose ends. Nice that the two cases were related to each other. How did ace detective Boxer not know what her husband truly did to make a living? After this book, how can she ever trust him again?

Having a baby is really inconvenient. I feel bad for her for never seeing her parents. The nanny is always ready to jump in and take care of her. The nanny also prepares dinner for Lindsey and Joe. How convenient that the nanny is a neighbor who lives across the hall. Will we soon find out that she has a criminal past? Why isn't Lindsey's sister around more?

I think Julie should be kidnapped and all the women have a part in locating her.

This story involved a mystery woman who some how has a relationship with Joe. Readers never know the reality of the relationship. What we learn is pretty suspicious and incredible. Would like to see her interact more with her husband and children. The oldest daughter is interesting. Why did the story end so abruptly?

The potential for the authors to get back to good story telling is there. Let's hope that they do so soon before no one cares about 16th, 17th....20th.

Typical Patterson

This is a typical Patterson story. It does hold your interest . It is a nice way to pass the time.

I was disappointed

I remember this series being thrilling and suspenseful. This to me fell flat. At the end, I was left wondering why I'd liked the others so much.
