Publisher's summary

One of Britain's most beloved authors, Mary Stewart leads her listeners on a journey of murder and deceit through the dusty roads of mid-century Greece in this tale that fans of Agatha Christie and Barbara Pym are sure to love.

'Nothing ever happens to me...'

So begins Camilla Haven's letter home during her quiet holiday in Athens. But when a stranger begs her to drive a car to Delphi, swearing that it is a matter of life and death, Camilla impulsively takes the opportunity she's been offered. Before long she is caught up in a whirlwind of intrigue, deceit and murder as she spins along the dusty Greek roads in a race against time to solve a 14-year-old mystery.

'The longer I waited the less possible it seemed to walk out of the café and leave everything to settle itself without me, and the more insidiously did the other possibility begin to present itself. Dry-mouthed, I pushed it aside, but there it was, a challenge, a gift, a dare from the gods....'

Wonderful Story!

Yay! Mary Stewart writes about Greece like no other. I love this and “The Moon Spinners” and “This Rough Magic”, for similar reasons. For this book, Jasmine Blackborow was a terrific narrator, and this story was gripping to say the least. To the last, it wove it’s way through a tale that kept me guessing. I loved the artistic elements in this story particularly. I found Stewart’s setting descriptions so vivid and compelling. It was as if you were really there at Delphi. Quite a story, though a bit grim, with much intensity but still a good resolution in the end. Enjoy!

My Brother Michael

Excellent writing as always by Mary Stewart. Very well read by Jasmine Blackborow. Giving a sense of being there and hearing the story as it unfolds. Well worth the purchase.

Best narrator ever

Mary Stewart is one of my favorite authors, and My Brother Michael is one of her best. Jasmine Blackborow is a perfect narrator, with great enunciation, steady volume, and narrative flow, with enough differences in characters’ voices to identify them without going overboard as some narrators do. She made the story come alive.

Great book, too slow

One of Mary Stewart's best. Narrator reads too slow and is overdramatic, but overall okay. I sped up the narration speed to 1.25x, which was much better.

another good one from stewart

The story is fine, and the characters are likable, but I keep coming back to Mary Stewart for the language. The reading level is not terribly high, but the common words are used masterfully with a signature that I could recognize without a title page. If you like her you will like this.
