Publisher's summary

In the charming Scottish shire of Nairn, sweater shop owner Paislee Shaw must root out a garden variety killer....

Paislee's custom sweater and yarn business, Cashmere Crush, is the sole support for not only the single mum and her 10-year-old son, Brody, but also her eccentric Gramps and Wallace, their black Scottish terrier. So when her landlord, Shawn Marcus, serves her an eviction notice and then pulls a disappearing act, she'll go to any lengths to find the man and reason with him.

Shawn is heir to the Leery Estate, which Brody's class will be visiting on a field trip. So Paislee volunteers to chaperone in the hopes of tracking down Shawn and killing two birds with one stone. Unfortunately, the only one killed is a man Paislee sees falling out of the hedges after being shot. It's not her missing landlord, but Lady Leery's nephew, Charles Thomson. Gruff DI Mack Zeffer is on the case, but Paislee also has a stake in flushing out the shooter. With suspects sprouting up like weeds, Paislee may need to hedge her bets until she can determine who is trying to lead her down the garden path....

Original and engaging

I almost didn’t listen beyond the first chapter, because it seemed to center on children and felt a bit like a young adult or teen story.

But I’m glad I continued and soon was engaged in this mystery and its original characters.

I love all things Scottish, but this story, with its rather complex characters would stand strong anywhere on the globe.

Beverley Crick’s performance moved the story forward quite well and kept us straight on the many people and the story’s complication.

Her care of her son and grandpa

I really liked the characters with their Scottish accents, and the whole idea of class, the rich and the poor

A Big Fan of a Good Cozy!

The characters are well-developed and believable. I especially enjoy that of Paisley, the main character. I'm so glad to have discovered this series!

Be Sure to Keep the Names Straight

Good series. Small town in the Highlands. The
Landowners still believe in the old ways.

These books are a true delight

I'm a big fan of detective procedurals and small town mysteries - these books are so well written. You would think following single mom Paislee Shaw through her day to day life trying to juggle (literally) everything would be a boring lull in the story. For me, it's the opposite. Traci Hall has created a rich full character that I feel like I have gotten to "know" and I can very much relate to. I find myself having up and down emotions when Paislee does. I root for her and delight in her wins. On to the next one...where is Craig? I have to know lol.

Beverly A. Crick and this book series were made for each other. Amazing performace!

I will complete this whole series and probably wish for more.

Meh

It could have been so much better. A nosy busy body who keeps saying she’s just trying to help and then goes on to do full interrogations.
