A brand new cozy crime series set in gorgeous Tuscany...It's murder in paradise!

A remote retreat…

Nestled high in the Tuscan hills lies Villa Volpone, home to renowned crime writer Jonah Moore and his creative writing course. It’s also the last place retired DCI Dan Armstrong expected to spend his retirement! Dan’s no writer, but maybe this break will help him to think about the next chapter in his own life story?

A gruesome murder…

But only days into the course, Jonah Moore is found stabbed to death with his award-winning silver dagger! And Dan finds himself pulled out of retirement with a killer to catch.

Eleven possible suspects.

The other guests all seem shocked by Jonah’s death, but Dan knows that one of them must be lying. And as he and Italian Commissario Virgilio Pisano begin to investigate it quickly becomes clear that everyone at Villa Volpone has secrets to hide…

But can Dan discover who the murderer is before they strike again?

Excellent first in series

Narrator is fabulous. Great mystery of a retired homicide detective who is gifted a two-week erotica writer’s retreat when he’s writing a mystery which makes for a compelling hook. We meet the other authors and guests over the next few hours and get to feel the heat of the sun and taste the dust as it swirls in the air.

I loved the twisted unexpected complicated mystery as much as scenery and look forward to the next ones.

Murder/ erotica - a disgusting combo, couldn’t listen to it.

A writers workshop based on learning to write with erotica as a study was distasteful, crossing the line from mild sexual reference by miles. I left the free book unfinished because of that. If such is his genre he should market his books for readers seeking that underlying theme.

Entertaining cozy

This is a good book to listen to if you like relaxing stories, with interesting characters, and an above average result. I only guessed half the mystery. I no longer enjoy thrillers, so if edge of your seat suspense is your cup of tea you won't like this book.

Simon Mattacks’ narrative skills …

… help make this murder mystery extremely worthwhile. Author T.A. Williams entertains us with his quick-witted subplots, surprises and a bit of amusement. Mattacks is familiar to me and always shows off his accomplished talents. Adding jaw-dropping surprises throughout make for a delightful whodunnit. I only wish this was a bit longer. Both narrator and author are perfectly paired and I definitely look forward Book 2, “Murder In Chianti.” Again, I found in these two in the Audible Plus catalogue. Highly recommended? Indeed!

Loved the descriptions of each unique character

Wonderful details about characters, raw emotions and landscape. I wish I had listened to this book first. But despite not listening to them in order, the story was entertaining and relaxing.

Excellent; can’t wait to start the next one

It’s got it all: an interesting plausible murder with several twists and turns, great descriptions of a gorgeous setting (as well as wonderful descriptions of food), a likeable protagonist, Dan, who is human enough but not completely ravaged by his life as a DCI AND, best of all, an adorable doggo named Oscar, who is going to be part of Dan’s life from now on.

It’s just cozy enough without being insipid and there are some pretty humourous parts too, as Dan discovers that the writing course he’s been signed up for is actually focussed on writers of erotica. Don’t let that scare you off if you’re sensitive about those things. There’s no rough language or sex, just some comedic moments.

Awful

Couldn’t return but wanted to, didn’t realize content! Should give more info in description. Didn’t make it pad the first few chapters.
