Publisher's summary

Downton Abbey crossed with Murder, She Wrote...set in a Yorkshire village!

Evelyn Christie, the new Lady Northmoor, is looking forward to hosting the local village fete in the grounds of Hessleham Hall.

However, the last thing she expects to see on the morning of the fete is the local Member of Parliament face down in the stream at the edge of the lawn! Evelyn and her husband, Tommy, are again called into action to find the dastardly murderer before he strikes again!

If you enjoy the glamour of bygone eras like 1920s Downton Abbey and gently, cozy mysteries set in the English countryside, then you will love this new series.

English Cozy

This is the second book in the series with Tommy & Evelyn Christie as the local sleuths. Evelyn is prepared to host the Village Fete when a member of Parliament is found dead on her husband's land. Evelyn and her husband work to solve the murder. I enjoy this series very much, not only because the setting takes place in the 1920's in an English manor home, but also because of the genuine love and caring that the author portrays between Tommy and Evelyn. I recommend this series to others who enjoy cozy mysteries. Alex Lee's narration is great as her performance adds to the entertainment of the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

enjoyable series

In the second book of this series, Tommy and Evelyn must solve the murder of one of their guests who has come for the village fete. This book deals with a more serious issue than the first one, Tommy's struggles with his memories of the war, and through this we get a better understanding of his character. As in the first book, Tommy and Evelyn work together to solve the mystery. The story is well written and the characters really come to life. The narrator does a good job of differentiating between all the characters and is enjoyable to listen to. I look forward to reading (or listening to) the next entry in this series.

Decent

I was more engaged with the first one, but this one was still interesting despite a slow start. I will still look for more in this series as they are available.

Disappointed

The writing is very cluttered and the story is unoriginal. One or two characters are appealing but not at all believable. The narration is very annoying. I cannot stand the breathless high pitch voices of some of the female characters. I will return this book if possible.
