Publisher's summary

Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris: Mrs. Harris is a salt-of-the-earth London charlady who cheerfully cleans the houses of the rich. One day, when tidying Lady Dant's wardrobe, she comes across the most beautiful thing she has ever seen in her life—a Dior dress. In all the years of her drab and humble existence, she's never seen anything as magical as the dress before her and she's never wanted anything as much before. Determined to make her dream come true, Mrs. Harris scrimps, saves, and slaves away until one day, after three long, uncomplaining years, she finally has enough money to go to Paris.

When she arrives at the House of Dior, Mrs. Harris has little idea of how her life is about to be turned upside down and how many other lives she will transform forever. Always kind, always cheery, and always winsome, the indomitable Mrs. Harris takes Paris by storm and learns one of life's greatest lessons along the way.

Mrs. Harris Goes to New York: Mrs. Harris is back! A little boy, whose father was a GI, is being ill-treated. So when she is asked to go to New York with one of her clients to keep house for her, she smuggles the lad with her to try to find his father.

delightful

The narrator was excellent. Easy to visualized. Didn't want the book to end. Loved it!

Easy, delightful diversion

If you are looking to listen to a book with a charming protagonist with a will of her own, listen to this book. It is dated as it was written in 1958, but still a very nice listen with (mostly) happy endings.

A lovely romp 🥰

So much fun! I laughed, I cried. I found myself holding my breath in anticipation of what was to come. Mrs Harris is a lovely character and I’m so happy to have gone along on her journeys.
You will not regret this purchase. Juliet Stevenson is great, as always.

A must listen for so many reasons!!

If this isn’t an inspiring, reflective, lovely read I don’t know what is! It is, perhaps both slightly predictable but yet also contains unbelievable twists and turns and you simply can’t hardly put it down! (Or stop the car and get to work as one more minute is always needed!) Having both stories in one audio book is a special delight! Absolutely loved the stories, good book club discussion material, and the audio narration is absolutely perfect and easy to listen to! I often up from 1x to 1.5x for books but couldn’t for this as narration is too delightful and important to visualizing the story!

Fun, sweet and a breath of fresh air!

This book had me laughing, smiling and wishing there were more Ada’s in this world because we certainly need them.

Refreshingly sweet …

I adored these two books and the character of Mrs Harris, along with her employers, colleagues in domestic service, and assorted other friends she makes along the way.

What a lovely break from the grit and grime of so much contemporary fiction, delightfully narrated and beautifully written! I’m so glad I listened to it.

My only regret is that the third and fourth books of the Mrs Harris series are evidently out of print and difficult to obtain—I hope one day audiobooks narrating her further adventures in the British Parliament and (surprise!) Moscow will come out.

The NYC story is great!!

The original story in Paris was sweet, but the movie really gave life to it. However, the NYC one had a touch of PG Wodehouse zaniness that made it a delight! I also was incredibly impressed with the narration—-she did a magnificent job with all the accents. Definitely would listen again to the second story.

Wonderful escape!

I love escaping in stories like these. Especially when there’s innocent mischief, love, and a great message. The God element is clear too in both stories. Very cleverly written! I wish all these stories were turned into a mini series on tv.
