Publisher's summary

Narrated by Westworld's Louis Herthum, Wiseguys called him "the Keith Richards of the American Mafia" and JFK hero Jim Garrison denounced him as "one of the most notorious vice operators in the history of New Orleans"...but you can just call him Mr. New Orleans.

Mr. New Orleans tells the incredible story of Frenchy Brouillette, a redneck Cajun teenager who stole his big brother's motorcycle and embarked on a 60-year vacation to New Orleans, where he became a legendary gangster and the underworld political fixer for his cousin, Louisiana governor Edwin Edwards. Written by Crescent City native Matthew Randazzo V, the wickedly funny Mr. New Orleans is the first book to ever break the code of secrecy of the New Orleans Mafia Family, the oldest and most mysterious criminal secret society in America.

A great dive into the New Orleans underworld !

A must read/listen if you wish to understand another side of New Orleans beyond the haunts and party's. The city is alive even in its dead, and this dimension is just another example of the layers that makes New Orleans a city like no other.

Amazing.Funny.Poignant at times.

I love stories about real people and people who survive in spite of their circumstances. Norma Wallace. Nellie Jackson. And now, Frenchy Brouillette…and company. While it’s not the sort of life I aspire to live, this book gave me a glimpse into the underbelly of a part of the South I have grown to love. The chapter on the Kennedy assassination was a bit laborious, but I chalk that up to having lived through that event and hearing so many conspiracy theories over the years. Criminal though he was, Frenchy possessed some redeeming, and maybe even some endearing, qualities, and in the end, he did develop some semblance of maturity….but you’ll need to listen to the book to figure it all out. What a great “read” and what a great narration! Thank you!

Great story!

This is one of the best books I’ve ever listened to. Frenchy had fascinating story to tell and did it well. Even though he covers a lot heavy stuff in his life I found my self laughing quite a bit too. I highly recommend this book.

The real deal, baby

I grew up in New Orleans. Listening to this book was music to my ears. I know so many people mentioned, not personally, but by name. I remember some of the events in the book. The narrator is fantastic and will keep you in stitches. Great listen.

Nawlins Baby

Loved hearing the rumors we grew up with being explained by someone on the inside with no ax to grind. Truth Baby.
Louis Herthum being a south Louisiana boy was able to give this read the color and flavor of Nawlins.

Forest Gump of New Orleans

This is a great book from the point of view of a guy who had a very unique view of everything major that happened in New Orleans in the second half of the 20th century.

The only odd thing is that the narrator, who is clearly good with voices, did not use a Cajun accent. But that did not detract from the book at all.
