Publisher's summary

In 1967, a Baltimore man named Howard Donahue began investigating the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Like countless Americans, Donahue was fascinated by the events in Dallas. But what separated him from other amateur sleuths, and even the Warren Commission experts, was a lifetime's experience with guns and ballistics.

In Mortal Error, Bonar Menninger chronicles Donahue's 25-year investigation of President Kennedy's death and the stunning revelation it led him to. In crisp, rapid-fire prose, Menninger relates one of the greatest true-life detective stories ever told. More importantly, he offers solutions to questions that have haunted America for 50 years.

Incredibly entertaining

This is an addictive read and stunning in its conclusions I dont necessarily believe it to be what really happened but its still a fascinating journey. This is a book of Occam's razor and who knows maybe its true maybe not but regardless it is a page turner..

More To Consider Regarding The Killing of JFK

Intriguing thesis of the documented facts surrounding the killing of JFK. This is a detailed, technically sound and well-researched account of the day's events and the aftermath of studies, investigations, stone-walling, and still unanswered questions surrounding that infamous and heartbreaking (as one who was alive when it happened) day. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in knowing more about the event and the very plausible theory presented therein.

A path to conspiracy nobody else has taken.

An alternate theory easier to believe than most because of the path he used . Government controlled mistakes to alter the story.

This Book Is A Must-Read

I guess that should be a must-listen. This book is well-written, well-researched, thoughtful, compelling and cogent. It’s not a conspiracy-driven theory. It simply makes sense. It answers years of questions and theories. Yes, it can be highly technical in parts, but it is so well-explained that even someone who knows close to zero about guns, rifles and bullets can understand. Kudos to the reader as well; I could have listened to him read this book all day. Come to think of it, I did!

Could Occam's Razor be such a long shot?

First of all, I'm not sure that I entirely believe the theory. I recall seeing and reading about this idea years ago, and being intrigued by it. One thing in its favor is that it doesn't preclude virtually any of the conspiracy theories with which it competes. It would not be accurate to categorize this as one, apart from the governmental inertia and Secret Service silence, after the fact. It doesn't exonerate Oswald (in fact, just the opposite), and leaves open the door for any number of configurations for a planned assassination. Only the nature of what happened at the grassy knoll is put into question, and even then, not definitively dismissed. I'm not a fan of "a lack of opposing evidence" constituting evidence in itself, it's too easily abused. But there do seem to be a lot of questions left unanswered and speculations un-rebutted. It's a compelling idea that is presented. It's simple and precise, if a bit hard to believe. But how much more unlikely is a freak accident than the logistical and organizational nightmares that populate other theories?

Much is made of the ballistics and firearms knowledge of Donahue, but we are still just relying on the word of the author in that regard. Those details are beyond my ken, as I suspect they are for most people, even assuming there is no preconception of the significance. As written, I feel the same as stated in the publisher's afterword, that having seemingly survived all challenges, the book presents a credible and supremely debatable topic which deserves more currency.

Absolutely Amazing!

This leaves no questions and sits as the most logical summation of events and I’ve read them all!

Tied up my biggest questions.

I read Best Evidence but it raised many questions. This book has well reasoned answers to the complex ballistics and simple believable answers to why the Secret Service was less than honest & forthcoming about the events in Dallas. Any intelligent person who looked at the evidence knew that the official Warren Commission Report was fiction but this gives a well thought out explanation that answers all of my questions.

Utterly compelling

Academic level research, utterly compelling and has me thoroughly convinced. How the story can be ignored by the government is shocking and appalling and terrifying.
