Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of Mort is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag; Vanity Fair; Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

'YOU CANNOT INTERFERE WITH FATE. WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE WHO SHOULD LIVE AND WHO SHOULD DIE?'

Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job.

Death is the Grim Reaper of the Discworld, a black-robed skeleton with a scythe who ushers souls into the next world. He is also fond of cats and endlessly baffled by humanity. Soon Death is yearning to experience what humanity really has to offer, but to do that, he'll need to hire some help.

It's an offer Mort can't refuse. As Death's apprentice he'll have free board, use of the company horse—and being dead isn't compulsory. It's a dream job—until Mort falls in love with Death's daughter, Ysabell, and discovers that your boss can be a killer on your love life…

The Discworld novels can be enjoyed in any order, but Mort is the first book in the Death series.

The first book in the Discworld series—The Colour of Magic—was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

An Average Man's Thoughts

Death is one of Pratchett's most fun characters to learn more about and to see in action. The idea of an apprentice for his job is exciting and unique. Mort was able to take that idea, put in a plot that kept me engaged and had me looking for excuses to listen to it. The voice for Death in this series of audio versions is absolute perfection and having a book filled with it was wonderful. Mort helped me reengage with the Discworld after a book that left me a bit bored, this one left me laughing, and listening in awed wonder as the mysteries of how death works on the Discworld unraveled. I very much enjoyed this and would recommend it to anyone.

I love the characters in the Discworld series!

The voice actors do an amazing job with the different voices. They quickly engulf you in the story.

Must listen

The voice acting is great, and actually helpful to the story line. It helps differentiate between Mort and Death and Mort as Death.

The book that started it all - for me

This was the first Pratchett book I read and I fell in love with the Discworld. After reading all the other Death books, the one feels very much like the first one. Pratchett's character and story building evolve so fast and the later books of Death are better, in my opinion. But I still love "Mort," and the production, recording, and voice actors are just incredible.

Death takes an apprentice

and begins his transformation into the true DEATH of the Discworld! I consider Mort the best starting point for new Discworld readers.

Disc world - Mort

I love the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett! They are absolutely interchangeable- and still also intertwine.
They are easy on the heart and mind. Zero pressure, interesting thoughts presented, laugh out loud - calm joy.

annoying characters..

With all of the new recordings of these books there are some characters whose voices have become unbearably shrill. In this book it is Albert. I wish these character voices weren't so over the top that they became hard to listen to because the new narrations and clarity of voice are overall great. But both the male and female narrators in the new readings have characters that are completely ruined by their over the top voice work.

My First Pratchett.

This was the book suggested for me when I started reading Discworld, and it has a special place in my heart. This was perfectly done, and I want Peter Serafinowicz to narrate my life now.
