Publisher's summary

Six months after Pearl Harbor, the seemingly invincible Imperial Japanese Navy prepared a decisive blow against the United States. After sweeping through Asia and the South Pacific, Japan's military targeted the tiny atoll of Midway, an ideal launching pad for the invasion of Hawaii and beyond. But the United States Navy was waiting for them.

Thanks to cutting-edge code-breaking technology, tactical daring, and a huge stroke of luck, the Americans under Admiral Chester W. Nimitz dealt the Japanese navy its first major defeat of the war. Three years of hard fighting remained, but it was at Midway that the tide turned. This vivid, in-depth best seller is the first book to tell the story of the epic battle from both the American and Japanese sides, demonstrating how America won its first and greatest victory in the Pacific - and how easily it could have been a defeat.

A must for WWII knowledge

A fantastic book, of analysis and first hand accounts from both sides. It shows the complex nature of war, the logistics of battle and the bravery of men on both sides. A must read for any history buff.

Complete your prior knowledge of US Navy versus Japan

None of the heretofore history of the US Navy during WWII filled in the back stories of the US and Japanese actions as Miracle at Midway does. Be patience with this story teller and the listener will be rewarded with a fuller knowledge of the how and why of this turnaround carriers sea going battle.

Terrible Narrator

The book itself is excellent and well written. Anyone interested in military history will enjoy it.

However, the narrator horribly mispronounced word. Two examples are CINCPAC and I-121. The first he pronounced "sin see pack" instead of the correct "sink pack". The second he pronounced "one one two one" instead of the correct "eye one two one". These are just two examples of many. Anyone with a passing knowledge of the topic will shudder each time and shout curses at the narrator. Anyone who does this professionally should not be making these mistakes.

Great Story But…

So many years after it’s original publication, Miracle at Midway remains the seminal and best overall study of a remarkable battle. It’s unfortunate that in this audio recording there are so many mispronunciations of what one would think are common names and titles. The errors make this audio book very difficult to listen to at times.

IT'S PRONOUNCED "SINK-PACK"!!!!

Not "Sincey-Pack". Being Retired Military, I hate it when narrators mis-pronounce military acronyms. Didn't anyone listen to the narrator before he proceeded to narrate the whole book mispronouncing CINCPAC? Geez. Even someone that's never been in the Military and has watched a WWII Naval war movie knows it's not pronounced "Sincey-Pack". It's "Sink-Pack"!!!
