Great follow up to Twilight of Embers. With how book 1 ended I wanted to know what happened next. I'm glad it started where the story left off. I listened to an audio ALC of this and it was great! It's still with the same cast and with dual narration. The narrators were fantastic! They brought the characters to life.

I loved the interactions of all the guys with Hayden. They were more possessive and overly protective of her. This story is more character driven than plot driven, which I didn't mind too much. It helped make the bonds among the guys and Hayden stronger. The spice kicked up a notch in this book as well. It's so good! There's a mix of action packed scenes, more secrets and more truths coming to the surface. I'm excited to see how everything plays out.

Midnight of Ashes is the second book in the Dragons of Ember Hollow series by Tessa Hale. After absolutely loving the first book in the series earlier this year I could not wait to continue on! This is a paranormal, why choose, dragon shifters, fated mates romance series and it’s so good.

The first book left off on a cliffhanger so this book continues on from there! We follow more with Hayden and her five heroes. I am equally obsessed with each of the guys and all they bring to the story. Each one is so well developed and add a different layer to the relationship with Hayden. In this installment we get more mating bonds, other hordes, more “Little Flame”, the Dragon Council, group activities 👀, and more layers and trauma to character’s backstories! Hayden struggles somewhat with the mating bonds and wondering if the guys are really there for her and aren’t just connected/feeling it’s out of duty instead because of said mating bond.

And tell me why I was legit jaw-dropped shocked with the cliffhanger ending of this book, even though I knew it was going to end on a cliffhanger again. 😂 I cannot wait for the third book in the series! The audios for this series are fantastic and such a ride, highly recommend!

The cast is impeccable!

This audiobook?!!! It’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The cast is impeccable!! Each character has a different narrator, which is fantastic since we have 6 characters POV’s to follow. Every narrator did a wonderful job!! 10/10 recommend listening if you are a fan of audiobooks!

Amazing Cast!

This was worth every moment of the wait! Book 1 ended on a cliffhanger and Midnight of Ashes picked up from there, which I was happy about.

Lots of character development for East and Maddox, giving the reader a deeper understanding of why they are each keeping a distance from Hayden physically and emotionally.

While this book is fast paced, with constant threats hanging over their bond, the few moments of normalcy and lightness gave a peek of the future they are fighting for.

The guy’s throwing shade at Knox’s love of pickle potato chips made me laugh because they are my daughter’s current obsession. 😆

Not gonna lie, I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, but this series is just so good! With the mystery of Hayden’s parents still unsolved, a traitor in the hoard, and a mean girl that just won’t quit, I need to know how this is all going to play out.

I switched between the ebook and audiobook, but have to say that I am totally in love with the cast of narrators for this book. This is one that’s even better on audio!

Loved this dragon shifter why choose romance! Already dying for book 3

I could not put this book down! It picked up right where the cliffhanger of Book 1 left off and it was so good. This one cannot be read as a standalone you have to read book 1 first.
This is a why-choose series following a heroine, Hayden, and her four dragon shifter mates. We got a lot more page time with her and the guys in this one and I loved that. The relationships are getting so much more developed and the connection between her and the guys is growing.
Tessa's books are always so fast-paced, fun, and addictive and this one was no exception. I am so intrigued by where the plot is going and dying over another cliffhanger at the end of this book.
The audiobook was fantastically done! I love the full-cast narration. I definitely recommend listening. I cannot wait for book 3!

If Tessa writes it…I’m reading it! So good not disappointed at all. I love getting to know the characters more this time around, i know there is more to come and cannot wait for the next book.

The narrators are so good at brining these characters to life!

Like I suspected, I loved this book and audio. This may be my top series of Tessa Hale’s so far and it’s not even finished yet. The narrators do an amazing job bringing each character to life. It felt like I was watching a movie and I never wanted it to end. You can hear all of the emotions the characters feel through the narrators’ voices. I truly don’t know how they do it, but this was and continues to be a dream team of narrators.

Midnight of Ashes picks up exactly where Twilight of Embers left off. I loved seeing Easton’s walls slowly crack around him and then him finally accepting that his heart has already chosen Hayden. Thought I’m sure they all wish it didn’t take the events at the end of book 1 to get him to get his head out of his butt. The scenes where Easton shows his love and care for her are perfection.

And then there is Maddox opening up a bit more but still denying himself since she’s a student. Sir, have you never heard or teacher/student romances? But he still is slowly being more open and it was nice to see.

Finally, we have Knox, Cael, and Cillian who have already accepted Hayden as their mate and I loved seeing their relationship build and develop. They had such sweet moments with each other and obviously some spicy moments that were amazing. The connection they are all building together is so beautiful to watch. But naturally, things happen that threaten their happiness together: rival hordes, dragon council, a creepy professor, a bully. There wasn’t a moment where I wasn’t completely engaged and on the edge of my seat needing to know what was going to happen next.

OMG, that cliffhanger ending! I can’t believe you would do that to us! If you are someone who doesn’t enjoy the suspense of a cliffhanger and waiting to find out what happens, I recommend waiting for the series to finish. I, however, enjoy torturing myself with cliffhangers and the suspense from them.

Side note: I need to know what that phrase meant to Bruce about Hayden’s parents. I can’t wait to see that mystery unravel. I know that he realized something and I’m sure it’s going to be a shock.
