Publisher's summary
A math wunderkind from a breeder-world slum will sacrifice anything to become a soldier—even her own identity.
Born into a society sculpted by endless war, Gaby dreams of fighting on the front lines. But the Intelligence Division has other uses for her talents, and sends her to witness a top-secret training exercise on an experimental starship.
Once aboard, a violent mutiny overtakes the ship, leaving Gaby alone to protect the ship’s secret weapon: Passenger, a symbiotic artificial intelligence that—when joined with a compatible human—can hack other AIs, turning the tide of any battle, perhaps even the war.
But the only way to keep the AI out of the mutineers’ hands is to keep it in her head, and Passenger wasn’t meant to stay integrated with a human for long.
With no rescue in sight, and the barrier between Gaby’s mind and the machine’s deteriorating, she must do more than evade capture: She’ll need to fight back.

Story
Like many teenagers, there's a lot about Daniel Meadows' life that's out of his control. For example, having to start in a new school district for his freshman year of high school thanks to his dad's new job. Inside the realm of his control, however, is the decision to try a brand-new sport purely to impress a girl. But the day of tennis tryouts proves far more fateful than Dan ever could have imagined, when a failed attempt by Truck-kun and the powers that be to kill him and transport his consciousness to a fantasy realm leaves him on Earth with miraculous abilities instead.

I couldn't stop!
I might have avoided doing things I was supposed to be working on because this book was so good! I fell in love. The story was fabulous, heartbreaking, heartwarming, intriguing, everything a good book should be. The narrator is one of my favorites, bringing the story to life in her usual flawless way. I didn't have a single complaint - other than, why isn't there more?? Big fan!
