Publisher's summary

Why do a sleazy antique dealer and a wealthy collector suddenly become interested in an unknown artist named Jo Allison? Is it the mysterious goblet she used in three still-life paintings? Jo's apartment is burglarized, and she is followed and threatened. When she attempts to determine the provenance of the goblet, she discovers that it might be a priceless artifact. Thieves follow her to Chicago and to the home of a blind woman in Riverside who also owns one of the goblets. The exciting climax takes place on the steps of the Art Institute of Chicago, between the roaring lions.

Entertaining

Marker's Mark was a realistic story with well developed ideas and a quick pace. The characters were believable and engaging. The plot was interesting and suspenseful. I liked that Jo Allison's character was independent and did not take unnecessary risks. The danger involved in the book was subtle but very real. All in all it was enjoyable reading experience that I would recommend to anyone who lie cozy mysteries.

good story and plot

What did you like best about this story?

The art angle and that it was interesting information as well as a good story, okay plot

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Many mispronunciations! Doesn't sound like it was proofed very well. "Bed raggled", and a "coop" instead of coup, and many more

Any additional comments?

Nice narration style but the mispronounced words were just grinding to my ears.

Enjoyed this book!

I received this book in the audio version and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a bit of violence but wasn't graphic. Great story line. Great mystery. The only thing that I thought was lacking was more in the romance department. Sure, I knew that the characters would fall in love, but I really didn't get see it. I also thought that the narrator, Lori Faiella, did a great job! I will definitely listen to more of her narrations, as well as reading more from the author, Helen Osterman.

Solid story

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Enjoyed the story, it's a good read.

What did you like best about this story?

Loved the mix of art and history.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Lori Faiella?

Good voice but a little on the soft and monotone side, I would have preferred a little more drama in her voice.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

This would make a great movie although the history side of the story lacked research and details. Could have been more fleshed out.

Any additional comments?

Most of my critique would be that although the writing was solid it was littered with cliches. The men have 'penetrating eyes' and our independent-minded heroine seems to 'burst into tears' an awful lot. She also has a habit of walking alone at night and never calling the police in the most obvious times. Th e ending was a bit 'Harlequin-esque' for my taste.

Very entertaining story!

I enjoyed this story, it had an interesting premise and I really liked the main character, Jo Allison. The narrator, Lori Faiella, had a pleasant voice, but was a little bland, she showed very little emotion when narrating. She did seem to improve towards the end, but that may be because I got used to her style or maybe because I was enjoying the story that I forgot about how bland the narrating was.

Good Mystey

She used the goblet as an item in her still life painting. It caught the eye of a art dealer and questions and mystery come to her. Should she take the money he is offering. Good plot and mystery. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
