Publisher's summary

Arden was left in the village by a dying mage, who never returned. With no way out of the village on his own, he had always held onto the hope that one day his magic would awaken and give him access to his spheres.

But he’s about to turn eighteen and it’s never come. Instead, he’s settled into his lot as a sarcastic and quick-witted innkeeper.

That all changes one night when his old flame, who escaped the village to become a mage’s anchor, returns.

Ard’s life is about to go through some dramatic changes, and he’s not ready for them.

Too bad, with magic comes responsibility and Ard needs to adapt quickly because he’s making more enemies than friends with his glib tongue. Thankfully, he’s got some help along the way.

Because he’ll need it. As the most powerful mage in the nation, he’s about to be thrown headfirst into the elite of the kingdom and a few jokes won’t stop a sword.

very good book

I enjoyed this book quite a lot, I really like when we get multiple prospective from multiple different character without giving too much of what's gunna happen away. I wish the next book was on audible aready.

awesome plot

I really enjoyed this one, honestly it felt like the book was finished to soon. it drew me in and I found myself continuing the story during every opportunity, As always the author made a brilliant book, and the voice actors were fantastic.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️I hope there are more books to come in this series! The MC is great along with a really good supporting cast! The story is captivating! The narrators also do a good job of bringing the story to life! Great job Bruce Sentar!

nice 1st book

this is a good book to listen, good twist of the main character talking more then he should. and the strongest lady's that handle the trouble that he will bring because he can not stop his tongue

I wish Ard wasn't such a whinny wuss

I read the first 2 novels and I love Bruce Sentar but after listening to the amazing voice actors do their best...... And still comes off as a whinny snot that just isn't tough enough to question bandits

Couldn't Stop Listening - Awesome New World

Let me start by saying that I really enjoy Bruce Sentar's story telling. Dragon Justice has been one of my favorite series to date. While I feel like the spicy scenes feel a little *too* convenient, I can let it go because the rest of his story telling is really good and he doesn't over do it. Magic's Mantle took his story telling to the next level. I love the fantasy world he is building with the Ard's Oath series and cannot wait until the next book is out.

Arden is great as the proxy for the reader (or listener) through the story as we discover the wider world as he does and it is so compelling. I found myself saying "ok, after he gets past *this* I'll stop and go to sleep" then kept going, later to say "Right, just needs to know what happens with *that* and then off to bed" -- you guessed it, didn't happen. I purchased this book on the day it was released and finished in less than two days!

I'm not going to give any spoilers here, so you will have to trust me when I say that if you are a fan of fantasy, monsters, and magic mixed with a strong dash of spicy romance, you will enjoy this book. As for the readers, Jessica Threet and Chris Boucher both do an amazing job with the characters. You start to be able to tell the characters by their voice (looking at you big bear man).

Overall, this is probably my surprise hit of 2024 so far. The only negative thing I can really say is that I have no idea when the second book is due out and I can get back to Arden and his anchors!

Holy crap that was good

Like Deadpool with magic. The banter was expertly done, if the MC was just mouthing off all the time it would have been terrible but the way everyone fed into it made it awesome.
Boucher and Threet were the perfect narrators for this book, I don’t think it would have been so perfect with another duo. They are always great but they really made this one shine.

All I’m gonna say is, pitcher, and noses

So this is probably a pretty funny book on itself, but the performance is spectacular. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a book that was more alive than this one. The performance was just perfect. I really felt like I knew the characters personality just from listening to how they read the book it was so great.
