Publisher's summary

"Honest, authentic, heartbreaking and healing. I devoured it in one day."—Jenny Lawson, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Bestselling author Wade Rouse finds solace with his dying father through their shared love of baseball in this poignant, illuminating memoir of family and forgiveness.

Before his success in public relations, his loving marriage and his storied writing career, Wade Rouse was simply Ted Rouse's son. A queer kid in a conservative Ozarks community, Wade struggled at a young age to garner his father's approval and find his voice. For his part, Ted was a hard-lined engineer, offering little emotional support or encouragement. But Wade and Ted had one thing in common: an undying love of the St. Louis Cardinals.

For decades, baseball offered Wade and his father a shared vocabulary—a way to stay in touch, to connect and to express their emotions. But when his father's health takes a turn for the worst, Wade returns to southwest Missouri to share one final season with his father. As the Cards race towards a dramatic pennant race, Wade and his father begin to open up in way they never thought possible. Together, inning by inning during their own magic season, they'll move towards forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace.

Heartfelt, hilarious and lovingly rendered, Magic Season is an unforgettable story of love, family and forgiveness against the backdrop of America's favorite pastime.

Wade Rouse hit it out of the park!

SUPERB narration by the author makes this poignant memoir feel even more relatable. It’s the story of a father and son who disagreed about almost everything except their love for the St. Louis Cardinals; but somehow, that was enough.

Honesty

Wade is my cousin and I was there for the Todd tragedy. I visited his grandparents and the house on the creek. Ted and Jeri took me to see West Side Story. I last saw Jeri when she told me about her Lupus.they were great people.

Loved it!

Loved that the author narrated this story himself, more meaniful to hear his writing coming from the heart. This was a raw, honest , emotional memoir of his relationship with his father as well as how it shaped him into the man he is today.Truely an inspirational messge to all who reads or listens to this book.

Amazingly honest!

Although I’ve read all of his VS books, this is the first of his memoirs I’ve read. The honest, funny, teachable, and teary moments make you really get to know and share feelings with this amazing author.

Heartfelt and gut wrenching

My print copy won’t arrive for several days, so I HAD to listen. Thank goodness for Audible! And listen, laugh, cry and ponder is what I did with almost no interruptions. I had to know what the next inning was going to be. Wonderfully written with genuine emotion!

Captivating

I have loved all of your fiction books. This is the first non-fiction I have had the pleasure of reading.
To say this was a tear jerking rude awakening of some of my own childhood is a huge understatement! Wade you have outdone yourself with this one here! Kudos to you for sharing your life and your story with all of us!
