Publisher's summary

One young man's journey to master the art of magic...

Jack wants nothing more than to be a mage. He trains by himself every day, cultivating mana and focusing on building his internal magic. All with the hope of one day joining a mage guild. Except one day, Jack encounters a strange object in the forest. It is the heart of a dungeon. Somehow, he absorbs the dungeon's heart into his body. Before he knows what to do, he encounters a peculiar man by the name of Lachlan Woe. He is a mage of great power, he says, and he is in need of an apprentice.

So, Jack ventures to the Shadow Tower, which Lachlan Woe calls his home. There, Jack will begin his studies and train to become a mage.

It soon becomes clear that Jack's powers are not those of regular mages. After absorbing the dungeon heart, his potential seems boundless, and even his mysterious mentor is in awe. Even so, Jack must work hard to learn exactly what his limits are, if there are indeed any limits at all to his magic.

All the while, Jack will explore the Shadow Tower, meet its bizarre inhabitants, and discover the secret origin of the tower and its master.

Join Jack as he embarks on the Path of the Mage and digs deeper into the mystery of Lachlan Woe and the Shadow Tower.

Age appropriate for 10 yr olds

I tried to like this book. But the story and narrative seemed like they were written for a 10 year old.

Mage's Path

In my opinion, this is an excellent way to start a series. Now I do agree with some of the other reviews on audible that the story may be slow, bland and boring but it's an introduction to the series. So everything they did in this book will result in a better story for future books to come so we can all skip the fillers in the next books. So I have to applaud the author for taking the time to do it. Also, the first couple of chapters were a little sluggish but after that it really picked up. This series has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing what's improved in the next book. As always, the author and narrator did a fantastic job with this book. So kudos to the both of them. 4.5/5 stars

So far, it's been pretty generic

I'm half way through. It hasn't been 'bad' but it hasn't been very memorable either.

Sometimes I just time out what they are saying, even when I rewind it's never anything of substance. If I actually hated this book I would just give up on it, so there's that. Here's a rundown of everything so far.

SPOILER:

Guy wants to be a mage.
Is told he can't for reasons.
Finds a magical McGuffin that fixed the problem.
He is now the chosen one.
Magical skills now come to him easily.
Everyone is Uber impressed.
He accidently made some sort of soul bond with a lizard in the floor boards.
Evaporated said lizard.
Then reforged the lizard into some sort of magically soul salamander.
Also he's starting to get mana vampire urges.
