Publisher's summary

Entering her 40th year, Beverly Donofrio, a "lapsed Catholic," inexplicably begins collecting Virgin Mary memorabilia at yard sales. Soon, immersing herself in a spiritual quest, she makes a pilgrimage to the holy city of Medjugorje. There, she learns that Mary comes into a person’s life only when pride steps out and receives a bonus: hope. In Looking for Mary, Donofrio offers the universal story about a woman who--in a quest for the Blessed Mother--finds herself.

REFRESHING & heartfelt! Just what I was looking for.

My son died 5 months ago & in my grief & deep sorrow, I’ve been searching for signs, meaning to be able to move forward in a healthy way. I’m a strong Christian but have never been taught much on Mary & now, feeling like I can relate to her more in our suffering as Mothers, I went searching for her. This book was so wonderful! I had no idea this was the same writer as Riding In Cars With Boys & when that was realized, I knew I was on the right path. I wanted REAL, I wanted an authentic picture of a Seeker & a sceptic . I didn’t need another religious book telling me why, I needed a first hand experience of how this very authentic woman found Mary & how this helped her in her own life.

too much confession

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The found again Catholics seem to be obsessed with admitting all their sins. I understand that finding the Church is a relief but I don't think its necessary to tell everyone every sin.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the parts where the author actually stayed on story with her feelings toward the Blessed mother

Do you think Looking for Mary needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It would be helpful to know if she stayed with her devotion and connection to the Blessed Mother and what she did to keep the devotion...

Easy listen and well written

Was an easy listen. I’m not a mother but this book has helped me appreciate Mary and maybe one day come closer to Jesus. I could relate to the writer and I hope that I can more faith too

Loved the book & narrator!

This book filled my spirit. As a non-Catholic who has had Mother Mary inching her way into my life, it was just perfect. The personality of Beverly really came through as it was being read. I couldn't wait for my time to listen to this book each day and was sad when it ended. Delightful and touching AND I learned so much.

Worth reading over again, and again

I just finished listening to the audio version of this book for the third time. Beverly is brutally honest about her failures, doubts and fears. She is also an excellent writer, and I don't want the book to end. I am not a Catholic, but love Mary and totally relate to the way Mary loves us and sneaks into our hearts in unexpected ways. Thank you Beverly for writing this inspiring book. May you and everyone who reads it be as richly blessed as I am by it.

One of my favorite books of all time!

Fabulously written and read with hipster cynicism masking deep longing for faith and meaning-true connection with the Divine. I've listened more times than I can count. Always speaks to me in new and fresh ways. Probably my second favorite book after Autobiography of a Yogi.

I absolutely loved her story. I want to listen to it again. It was wonderfully written. There was never a dull moment and this book has brought me close to GOD, Mary, and Jesus. Thankyou

Perfectly imperfect

Awesome book with so many things that hit home. There were pats of my grandmother, my mother, means my daughter intertwined in her story. Perfect timing for me too.

Very moving story

This is the author's story of coming to know Mary. I was absolutely riveted and did not want this book to end. I cried several times. This is a very real and raw story of faith.

My Mother Forever.

I had just listened to Riding In Cars With Boys and I enjoyed it. But when I stared to listen to this book, I was hesitant to continue listening to it, because I am a devout cradle Catholic of many, many generations and I started to question Beverly’s criticism about the Priests, Jesus and about the Catholic Faith, but as I listened further, I started to see what was a total conversion! I was thrilled to see Beverly’s spiritual transformation and appreciation of it all. It goes to show, that Catholicism is very hard to understand and to follow, but when you do become disciplined about it especially spiritually, it starts to fulfill you completely. God bless Beverly and may she bring us more wonderful books!
