In What Makes Us Healthy? best-selling author and internationally renowned speaker Caroline Myss delivers a thought-provoking live lecture on the current state of our health, exploring the mystical forces that create disease or wellness. Describing our evolving - and often misguided - relationship with well-being, Myss explains that to truly be healthy, we need a better understanding of ourselves and the factors that influence our lives.
She shows us that we must move away from the illusion that the physical world of money, sex, power, and self-esteem has more authority than the inner world of the psyche and soul. That it is, in fact, our ego that blocks our truth and creates imbalances that lead to illness.
Describing the language of transformation as a sophisticated spiritual journey, Myss shows that healing is an act of the soul: our mind governs our healing, but it is the soul that must lead the way. She teaches us that to truly heal, we must look at the energy of our lives and focus inward - toward the soul and away from the mind.

Used to be a great reader, now i'm aspiring to be a great listener as well.
I have to say, i'm a Caroline Myss' addict. Can't have enough of her books, and i'm constantly listening over and over again to her audios. I can't have enough of learning about mystical laws, and especially from people, like Myss who respect other cultures and religions. Her language may seem a bit strong for many, but the Truths she tells are food for thought and spirit. Love this program. Love Myss.
Many of us have health coaches or aspire to improve our health. Myss addresses health as a return to mind , body , spirit. The misstep we have taken as a society has been to include mind, body and to simply ignore the spirit aspect of our overall health. A return to health must include all three, and Myss speaks clearly to this need.
There are numerous books on wellness, whole health and countless fabrications on getting fit , slim or eating right.( Dr. Andrew Weil stands out).. Few examine health as a construct of spirit and mind health and healing as well as Myss. In the 80's, the Yale surgeon Bernie Seigal wrote of love and miracles and health and his' I Can' cancer groups became foundational to wellness. In the 90's, author and cardiologist, Dean Ornish (Eat More , Weigh Less) was instrumental in returning our attention to the connection of health, creating community and emotional support. In this ever evolving topic of health, I can think of no one as fundamentally conscious of the complexities of responding to mind , body spirit than Myss and her writings on health and healing, and turning our attention to Grace.
A Return to Health
Myss continues to astound with her 'in your face' facility for awakening us to our deepest truths through her own words and insights, and through her enlightened choice of co speakers on the journey,
I can understand the negative reviews of this audiobook / lecture. Caroline Myss does meander here and there and I lose her train of thought now and then. It's apparent that Caroline knows what she wants to say but something is left out. I think this could have been edited a bit for repetition. Caroline pulls no punches in this one - it's hard and almost confrontational, underscoring the urgency of her message. She starts strong - meanders - and ends strong. This is the voice of someone who is concerned about the state of humankind and it shows. I felt this in my gut.
It's all about the truth and being true to ourselves...hover over me God.
Of course. But would be good to figure out how to differentiate one book from another! There are similar themes.
Caroline is one of the most passionate speakers there is.
Listen and learn!

I love this audiobook ! And i highly recommmend it :-)
I liked the content and delivery. I liked the expansive experience and the opportunity to hear, learn and move with the teachings.
I am reading books that are touching on new realms of genetics and biology and everything in this book moves along similar energetic pathways and confirms other evolving medical research (for example).
The author takes us through a journey with brilliant ability and awareness.
Good reads, interior decorating, cooking, great conversations with friends & my sister, traveling, spending quality time alone, attending to my career as a training consultant, being a mom, grandmom & friend, learning something new everyday. These are my favorite things.
Currently I am sick. This is exactly what I needed to hear to heal. God bless you Caroline Myss. Thanks for this new way to see healing.
A lecture that is both powerful and insightful, Myss looks at various times in history to draw out lessons that have and have not been learned. In her signature no nonsense approach, she does away with superficial notions of health and healing. She reminds listeners of the spiritual aspects of health that are too often side stepped by individuals and nations in the modern world. Myss encourages the using of one's unique gifts to help self AND other. Thus I highly recommend this lecture.
There is tons of wonderful information about the mind/body connection and brain science which she obviously has not read. Somatic mindfulness is key in healing, as is compassion and understanding of gut/brain health. Scolding and insulting people has never been shown to be helpful or healing. I couldn't get very far in the book because of how nasty she is. She displays her ignorance right off the bat by talking about the Renaissance and saying people didn't realize a big cultural change was happening at the time. That's patently untrue and uninformed.
If CM would calm the f*** down and deliver like she does when Prince Charles in in the audience.
Haven't made it there
Her calm, gentler alter-ego.
The story meanders about from a whiny dude with AIDS she wants to kick in the bum, to the Great Depression, to WW2, to a lonely bitter housewife making a spectacle of herself. Usually I can follow her, I loved Defy Gravity + Entering the Castle and I like to her her ideas, but please present them using a less entangled thread, and a kinder voice. Some listeners are very ill and having a voice that gives the same reaction as a fire alarm is NOT healing.
"Here Be Dragons."
I've listened to the first hour or so of this and, unless you like being hectored by a woman with a New York accent, I'd leave it be. This is less a book being read than someone free-flow ranting. What I heard was repetitive and shouty. I'm not looking for unicorns and rainbows but I think coherence is a must. Sorry, I won't be going back.
I'm not sure. This certainly didn't inspire confidence.
"The second worse audio book I have listenened to"
I only listened to this book for about one hour and then I really had had enough. Sometimes she came across as an extreme right wing Republican and the in the next paragraph start taking about meditation and chakras, she seamed to be both pro and anti the Catholic church at the same time, and whilste she did come out with the occasional interesting comment or question, I really felt that she lacked credibility and orthenticity. I would have given this zero stars if I could.
