Publisher's summary

Things had never been quite the same at Latter End since Lois had taken over. Suddenly life seemed to be an endless succession of bitter family rows which Lois, needless to say, invariably won. More than one person at Latter End found themselves stretched to the limit by Lois and her bullying, and it was only a matter of time before somebody snapped. It was unthinkable of course...but if anyone ever murdered Lois Latter, it would be very embarrassing to discover just how many people might have wished her dead.

Quintessential unassuming elderly detective

The unique, Tennyson-quoting Miss Silver is on another adventure of solving mysteries and puzzles via her intellectual ability and her relationship-building skills. Always entertaining, even if the mysteries are occasionally formulaic. #intriguing #knitting #professionaldetective #tagsgiving #sweepstakes #femaleprotagonist

The same novel as the Miss Silver "The Grey Mask"

I thought this was an excellent Miss Silver mystery. Diana Bishop gives every one of the Miss Silver mysteries the most perfect narration. I can't imagine another performer doing the job better. As for Patricia Wentworth, what a wonderful writer. It is a pure joy to have her develop her characters, and interject her wit, and good humor into every book she writes. I have wondered about one thing that Audible really needs to answer for me, why is ''The Grey Mask'' Patricia Wentworth's first Miss Silver Mystery being offered as the same mystery as ''Latter End''?

Clever Who-dunnit Twist

The author does tend to wallow in Freudian rhetoric a bit much in this book. I really enjoyed the twist Wentworth gave to this who-dunnit, I didn’t see that coming at all.

One of the best Miss Silvers

Fully realized characters, beautifully expressed scenes, an interesting plot and some believable plot twists. Very good! Narration great too.

Pay Attention to the Psychic.

Patricia Wentworth is my guilty secret in mysteries. Among contemporary murder mysteries with body parts all over the place and vampires and zombies, one is not amused or even entertained. These quiet little old family murders and the horror over scandal after the dirty deed are so much fun, that they are only exceeded by the pleasure in dialogue. Loved this one, because, perhaps she believed in Karma.

Loved the Story but..

While I liked that Miss Silver was less an observer and more a participant, I think she did not need to detail another explanation after the case concluded.

Also, though the story began with the inference that there was more reason for the victim's behavior than was obvious, that aspect was never again mentioned.

Otherwise, I enjoyed the character interaction and the excellent narration.

Engaging story

PW’s heroine isn’t Miss Marple but could’ve been because the mock-up is almost identical - almost omniscient old lady with keen deductive and intuitive skills feasting her idle hours on murders and mysteries with a love story somewhere in there and gentle humor mixed in the the very well written dialogue and well imagined plots. This one is one of the very good ones with lots to involve the listeners’ interest and loyalties. Very recommended!
