The Pimsleur® Method: the easiest, fastest way to learn a new language. Completely portable, easily downloadable, and lots of fun. You’ll be speaking and understanding in no time flat! Each lesson of Swedish Phase 1, Units 1-5 provides 30 minutes of spoken language practice, with an introductory conversation, and new vocabulary and structures. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Each lesson contains practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension, and on learning to speak Swedish. This course teaches the rikssvenska (or Standard Swedish) dialect, spoken in and around the capital region of Stockholm. The first ten Units of Pimsleur's 30-Unit Swedish Comprehensive Program, replaces the Compact Swedish.

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." (AudioFile magazine)
I was skeptical about the pimsleur method, since learning a language as an adult can seem so difficult. After completing the first 30 minute lesson, I already felt like I was speaking way better than I ever had from taking lessons from a native speaker and friend of mine. The learning curve and words are very practical and linear, so everything you learn reinforces your fundamentals and builds logically until you're stringing together useful sentences at an intermediate level. Of course having some written exercises to work out will be the next step, so I will look into getting a basic book of swedish. No complaints here about this method!
"Worth every penny!"
Each unit is easy to understand and is great for listening to in the car. With each unit I can hear myself getting more and more confident in speaking and understanding what is being said. I am heading to Sweden next month and cannot wait to try talking in Swedish!
"Not a bad course"
Like any of the language courses, you get out what you put in, it's not easy but the course takes a slow easy learning approach. Follow the plan and you'll start to learn. The course tends to provide a sentence, and then breaks down all the words in the sentence, and the pronunciations for the words. As I mentioned in the title, not a bad course and I'd recommend it to help supplement Swedish learning.
Everything is really clearly set out so you are suddenly constructing sentences and with the rhythms of speech there for you to copy.
"Absolutely the best way to learn a new language."
I have tried learning Swedish through Duolingo and Babbel in the past, and even though they have value I think they are much better for someone that can already speak Swedish as they teach you to read and write Swedish more than they teach you to speak it. This teaches you to speak Swedish and the method is very effective.
Very clear, easy to follow.
very well spoken and presenting. Extremely fun. The best language learning tool that I have used.
"Excellent way to build your Swedish language skills"
This system perfectly drip feeds the information so you are able to build a great foundation, without feeling like you are having to try at all hard. The pressure of learning is squarely on the 'teacher' and not you.
Similar to the Michel Thomas technique, just without the other students in the class (which I often find distracting anyway).
Highly recommended. Straight on to the next series of lessons.
