"Excellent method of teaching"
I like this course - a lot.
Instead of the narrators simply rattling off vocabularly and phrases straight from a script, it is done in the form of a native French speaker teaching a non-native speaker but in a very light hearted, jovial manner. Each phrase is repeated a few times but each in a different tone to avoid monotony. The phrases are then translated following which theyare broken down into their component parts which are also repeated in various ways - for example, a cup of coffee with milk is stated as a whole phrase, then as individual words and then as combinations of those words. However, what really sets this course apart is it is all set against a backdrop of rather well chosen, upbeat music. As a result, you drift in and out of conciously listening to the French and subconsiously listening to the music and vice versa, effectivly removing the intense boredom that often sets in rapidly with other more traditionally themed courses. I found that even after the first time I listened to Volume 1 many of the words taught were imprinted in my mind even though I made no real conscious efforts to listen to them - in fact, the words just seem to pop out of my mind as and when I need them.
A highly recommended course and I really hope that they extend the series beyond volume 2.
These recordings work a bit like Pimsleur, giving you a phrase and then breaking it down with a lot of repitition. Unlike Pimsleur, this is easier to listen to again and again because it is set to music. However, there are a couple of problems. Some of the phrases in French are spoken quickly, which of course is quite good, but then not properly broken down into the separate sounds. So you are left guessing how to say the word. It would have been okay if there was a booklet to download, so you could check it in writing, but sadly there isn't one.
