Rosetta Stone takes a lot of guess work and to me that is a waste of time. This audiobook makes so much sense and I was making sentences that I can retain after the first two chapters. I speak English and Spanish and working on Italian and Portuguese through this same author. I wish I knew about this audiobook when I was learning Spanish.
You will not be disappointed with this audiobook. Rosetta Stone uses a lot of marketing hype, but looking at pictures and trying to guess exactly what the picture is supposed to say is ridiculous.
I only review language programs that are easy, fast, effective, portable, inexpensive & teach you to really speak and understand languages.
Power Italian 1 Accelerated – Listen, Repeat, Recall, and Don’t Worry About It.
I am so impressed with myself (and, oh yeah, with the Power Italian Accelerated audio program, too) that I feel compelled to write a review. I like stuff that works and this Power Italian Accelerated audio program really works. The material may seem a little overwhelming at first because there are a whole lot of words and phrases that are thrown at you right off the bat. But there’s a reason for that.
The narrator uses what he calls ‘audio snapshots’ to introduce new material. These are sections where the listener is instructed to simply listen without repeating. The first audio snapshot comes right after the program begins and lasts for several minutes. My first reaction was that this is way too much material and I’m never going to remember all of it. And that’s true. I didn’t remember hardly any of it at first. But I kept listening. It wasn’t until I was a couple of hours into the program that I realized that remembering all of it is not the point; at least not in the beginning. I, and probably most people, have always assumed that learning a new language was about memorizing words and sentences. And it is. But what I have come to realize, my own personal epiphany, is that listening is just as important and I think even more important than intentionally memorizing. I’m not saying that you don’t have to remember anything; of course you do. But one of the keys to remembering is just simply listening. You have to ‘tune in’ to a language, that is, to the peculiar sounds of a language, in order to be able to speak it and to understand it.
The relatively short time that I have spent listening to Power Italian has given me a new perspective on learning languages and I have some advice that I’d like to pass along: Just do what the program narrator says to do and just keep listening and repeating. The words and phrases get easier and easier to remember as you go along and the correct pronunciation gets easier and easier the more you repeat the words and phrases. If you just follow along and don’t worry about what you know and what you don’t know you’ll soon be surprised at what you know - and equally surprised that you came to know it without a lot of mental or emotional sweating. Power Italian really works for me. No worries!
I went from being a complete novice to actually conversing in Italian with natives with this little $19.00 program. It's amazing effective if you use it every day.
I loved the fresh and intense approach which forced me to recall and really learn how to speak Italian. I have read reviews that state the contrary, but I have listened and relistened to this program and the material is always new, fresh, and then it is all strategically reviewed so you get strong at speaking, responding, creating original sentences.
The teaching approach and technique used in Power Italian is the best I have yet experienced. No guessing. Everything is explained clearly in English by the American instructor and then spoken slowly then quickly by the native Italian speaker. Then the best part. You get repeated chances to get the questions right, to remember correctly. You literally fail your way to fluency with this program just like a little child is allowed to stumble, fall, get up and try to walk until he or she finally makes it.
Yes. I have tried a number of Mark's programs and they are all fantastic. I just have to repeat that it's an unbelievable value to get this kind of effective instruction for so little money, and then have so much fun learning it. The best part is showing off in front of your friends.
I had an extremely happy response to Power Italian Accelerated. The first time you listen you learn enough to say "Where is the bathroom" and "I would like to order now please".
Don't waste your money on all of the bizarre language programs out there. Language Audiobooks really makes great programs and I highly recommend you try Power Italian.
You'll be speaking Italian fast and enjoying that process they use!
On the recommendation of a friend who has been using Language Audiobooks programs for some time, I ordered Power French and Power Italian Accelerated to prepare for the trip I just took to Europe. Here is what I experienced with Power Italian 1 from the learning perspective:
Nice Italian Speaker - Good Explanations - Great Relevant Subject Matter - Easy to Learn, Speak and Remember Technique
Here's what happened when I got to Italy after nothing but a few weeks with Power Italian:
I could survive at the Marco Polo Airport in Venice. I spoke Italian to the taxi driver and asked
"How much?" and understood the response. I booked a room in Italian, ordered some food, asked for 'peace = fish' and got fish. Could tell people what I wanted and where I wanted to go and ask them to "Please repeat more slowly" all in Italian.
That after just 2 1/2 weeks of listening and practicing on my IPhone and in my car for $19.00 bucks. Great investment in my opinion. Well worth the money if you want to learn a lot of usable Italian really fast without a hassle.
I feel so obliged to write my experience with Power Italian! It was great even more than that, an awesome program. Before trying this program, I had tried various other marketing gimmicks programs, they are just popular by the hypes but in real they are just waste of time. Try this program. I'm sure it will work for you like it did for me.
Within hours, I learned to converse in Italian, but it’s not a magic, you are ought to make mistakes, may not be able to learn in the starting, but just keep following the instructions given by the narrator and you will soon realize that you are actually getting it in real. The narration in this program is excellent!!!
Mark Frobose has did a great job as the narrator of this audio book, he completely makes you clear with the program, explain the meanings in English, his voice is too friendly and enjoyable and you will find yourself engross in this great program. Latin Italian speakers are also very good, fast in starting to make you just listen, then slow and repeat, pauses to make you review and with such an ease make you converse in Italian. With this program, it’s easy to learn to speak fluently in Italian but you need a lot of practice. It’s completely worth the money you spend on this program. It is the best program I have ever used, highly recommended.
But, to start with this awesome program, you should first try Marc Frobose simpler Italian programs, as it’s an accelerated way to learn Italian. I learned to speak a lot of Italian words and can even make sentences to converse in Italian from this program. I visited Italy after this program and I was surprised that I was able to converse and understand most of what was being said by the Latin Italian speakers.
Yes this is def. worthwhile. I wrote as they spoke to make sure that I spelled everything correctly. It is a BUON Mercato as we learned. A good price. It would have gotten five stars had there not been repetition of content learned in one chapter in another chapter. I could always review the previous chapters. The accent is bellissima from Hilaria. I got a lot out of this. It also provides more comfort and control in my reading and speaking Italiano. Bravo Mark e Hilaria. I encourage you to buy this audio book. Maria
It didn't feel very robust, powerful or accelerated. I'm already looking for another audiobook to try to really learn some Italian.
Honest Language Reviewer
I would rather eat dog food rather than be separated from Power Italian Accelerated. I listen, practice and repeat with it daily. As a result of the program's intelligent design, where a small fund of highly common words, verbs, phrases are put together to show you how the Italian language is basically constructed, you go on to speak like the natives do in short order. (basic stuff at first, but native Italian speakers are still impressed).
After using this program minimally for under two weeks I went on a 10 day tour of Italia.
I was amazed at how much Italian I could speak compared to the other tourists in my group who only had used Rosetta Stone, Rick Steves, etc ...
My functional fluency (Note that I am not totally fluent in Italian, but I function at a fluent level in basic situations, and not just tourist related situations but REAL situations, because I Power Italian gave me a foundation that gives me flexibility.
Once again ... Power Italian Accelerated is not simply a tourist type language program. Far from it. It teaches you the foundation of the Italian language, how to create original sentences, to express likes and dislikes, to converse using different topics, to express oneself in the past, present, future (in later lessons, of course).
Mark's personality, clear voice, excellent explanations, interpreting what Hilaria (the native Italian speaker) is saying, explaining in clear English what the heck is going on so you always understand while you're learning is really a comfort and a great help.
Yes. Many. Every time I was able to form and speak an original sentence in Italian expressed my likes or dislikes, what I wanted to do, what I was going to do. or every time I managed to speak directly to a native Italian in their language, see their smile, have them understand me, and then have me understand them thanks to this program, brought tears to my eyes.
Buy the program, use it wherever you go, and enjoy it.
I tried every Italian program on the market and spent a lot of money doing it.
I would begin with Power Italian 1 Accelerated. For the money, it's a real bargain and it might be the only program you'll ever need to buy.
I liked the book, and followed along well. I've taken Italian classes before and wanted a review session before traveling. As any language primer, this is incredibly repetitive. I wish it were a bit less so. Many portions of the chapters felt like a direct copy/paste from the previous chapter(s). There is very little travel-oriented dialog. A bit about hotel, room, key, but that's it. It does very well in giving you the pieces to be able to shop and order/pay for food. Wish there was more about say "Which train do I take from x to y," or potentially more of the "we" conjugations of verbs as opposed to I/you. A good primer overall. You'll need this and some other supportive books/tapes as well.
If Mark Frobose didn't tell me to "ALWAYS BE SURE TO LISTEN AND REPEAT" 500 times
Every time he said "IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK ITALIAN MORE QUICKLY ALWAYS BE SURE TO LISTEN AND REPEAT" I wanted to shut it off
He sounded like a robot. Also he kept repeating the copyright info. WHO CARES?
They also taught me how to say "early morning breakfast" in 5 separate sections. NOT THAT IMPORTANT!!!
"A struggle to finish"
The content is fine but Mark Frobose is very irritating. I personally found it difficult to finish due to my growing dislike of the narrator. If you don't mind BS American patter this might just be for you.
