No. The chapters gave you laundry lists of words, and a quiz at the end. There was no way to learn sentence structure or tenses or basically anything. You just memorize. They tell you once, so now you know the word.
No, because I've encountered a good method to learn German.
If you want to, say, remember or listen to the word "American," for example, you would have to listen to the whole list until they got to your word. You can't learn German from this. It will tell you a word that you may want to know if you listen to the list long enough to get to it. This needs a workbook, or if you can already pronouce German letters, just buy the workbook. Otherwise, the only redeeming quality is that it teaches pronunciation of words.
Save your money.
