This book presents a fresh approach to learning language with a different design for each chapter which keeps it interesting. The use of narratives that intertwine English and Italian makes it easier to learn vocabulary baseed on context and throughout, there is a sense of humor lacking in most such texts. I won't know if it works until I go to Italy in a few months and I certainly wouldn't put all my eggs in this or any single basket, but even it it doesn't make me fluent, it has been way less painful than most and I have enjoyed playing it over and over..and over and over...and over and over...
"3.5 / 4 Stars - Fairly good"
This audiobook will grow on you as you listen. I bought this because I am part Italian, and wish to brush up on the language before I go to visit my family.
One of my main problems with it is understanding what one narrator is saying. You will notice this from the very beginning of the audiobook, but thankfully, there are other peoples voices throughout the tape who speak much clearer.
The tape is divided up into 'Tasks' where you will learn vocabulary and phrases on a specific topic (such as questioning words, Airports/Hotels, grammar, restaurants and shopping, etc).
Overall, I'd say its a little rough around the edges, but you get to learn vocabulary and grammar that you would use in everyday conversation, which many self-learning audiotapes leave out - they are designed purely for tourists.
At the end of the day, its not that expensive, and would probably be worth getting for anyone who wishes to either learn the basics, or just improve on the language. (However, I'd probably recommend the 'Rapid Italian' series a little more than this for people just wishing to get a basic grasp of Italian - You won't learn as much, but I find them clearer, and I learn't more quickly with them).
I'm not very impressed with this recently purchased auidobook, the female voice needs to slow down a bit, I was expecting a bit more for my money, I could'nt understand why it went on about crazy/inteligent boys and girls! to be honestI found the BBC free
language courses more informative and far better presented,in conclusion I just wish I could get my money back.
