Publisher's summary

Collins French with Paul Noble combines an exciting, new non-traditional approach to language learning with the easy, relaxed appeal of an audio-only product. No books. No rote memorisation. No chance of failure.

Paul Noble is a genius with a higher IQ than Einstein. Despite this, he still struggled with language learning at school. He found himself feeling ‘confused, incapable and unable to really say anything’. As a result of his negative early experiences, Paul has come up with a groundbreaking new method of language teaching that removes the need for months of study. With Paul Noble, everyone really can speak a language. Part 2 of the course covers:

  • Useful vocabulary at the tourist office
  • Asking for directions
  • Where you are from and what you do
  • Pronunciation

A native-speaking French expert helps Paul to deliver the course and to perfect your pronunciation. No complicated grammatical explanations, no rote memorisation, no writing - no stress. Learn over 6,000 words in no time at all and - most importantly - learn how to make your new vocabulary work for you. (Use the accompanying booklet as a reference and revision tool.)

Nice job

Gives a lot of practice on the practical of getting around in a French speaking country. I asked my daughter, a high school student who is very smart and has been taking French for five years, a few of the questions from this series and she couldn't come up with the answer. She said it was too complicated from the French she learned well in school. So that made me feel justified in spending the time. Feel if I get through the third and fourth series of four - which I believe is equivalent to the 12 CDs- I will be very prepared to interact on a basic level in a French speaking place. This series was a bit over three hours, but it probably took at least six for me to get through. However, I have limited time and would have to go back a few minutes each time because I had forgotten the last things where I left off. (He does say to go back if you are struggling a lot with something because the more you hear it, the more it gets reinforced.) Great teacher if you do as instructed and stop and think before you speak instead of letting it tell you the answer.

Paul Noble is a wonder.

By far these language courses made by Paul Noble and put out by Harper Collins are the best I imagine possible in a strictly audio format. He is so bright and at the same time so calm and reassuring. The native female helping him with examples complements him wonderfully. This is the easiest way to learn a language. Pair this with online drills like Duolingo and a video-chat tutor, as well as some French TV and you'll feel competent in the language in relatively very little time. I can't wait to move on to the other languages in this series. The prospect is not daunting now at all, but rather something I'm addicted to like my favorite rock band's new album.

Great approach!

Paul noble does a fantastic job of teaching languages. I love the approach he takes. We learn by being constantly exposed to things instead of deliberately trying to memorize. I grew up in a Spanish speaking household and learned English at a very young age. I don't remember learning English at all. I just remember being in front of other English speaking kids and I started speaking it. I can relate to this approach because it's how I learned English very young. I know a child's developing brain is different of that of an adult. But the approach for learning a language is, in my opinion, the perfect way to learn a language. I recommend Paul noble to any friend trying to learn a language.

tried them all. . . . this was by far the best

In anticipation of a trip to France, where I'd never been before, and because I had never attempted the language, I tried all the French language learners available on Audible. This was by far superior to every other method. It was both substantive and accessible, providing practical information with a reasonable explanation of the grammatical points necessary to speak competently in French. It provided invaluable as I spent a month in France and was, after making some adaptations for Provence, understood by the locals 99 prevent of the time. I was never in a situation where I couldn't convey the basics of what I needed or wanted. Highly recommended.

After finishing the first set and this one, I need a review of them before jumping into the 3rd. But very good and a fun introduction to French!

Absolute best, most effective language course EVER

Paul Noble is IT. Every other language course., app, etc pales by comparison. Noble has used his considerable intelligence to produce a unique way of tackling French for the native English speaker, giving you abundant clues and little tricks for leveraging your English knowledge to get you started with French.

He works through dozens of truly useful travel scenarios and phrases you can immediately say correctly and use in real life. You will be speaking and understanding quite a bit of French in the first hour and your confidence and fluency grows steadily. The native speaker he uses for the speaking is wonderful.

And finally, his manner and approach inspire confidence, eliminate shame, and brilliantly mange all the negative emotions most of us bring to language learning.

Why his methodology isn't the widely accepted gold standard for language learning I will never know. It just goes to show that mediocrity typically rises to the top. Buy his tapes, spread the word.

Great review and very helpful

His method is so accessible that it is easy to learn and to retain new concepts and to remember my French learned long ago. I feel much more confident than I did before using these audio sessions.

Best language learning tool!

This is the best resource I've encountered for learning French. It has really helped me with speaking more comfortably and understanding the structure of the language. If only there was more to the series!
