Well I've just begun, so I might modify this later, but so far the audio is way too fast. I missed the first section almost entirely before I realized that the .4 second pause was the time for me to repeat the sound I was still attempting to understand.
I love this course. It is not like all those other audio courses that only teaches you specific phrases but you have no idea how to say anything else. This course teaches you the grammer and also gives you plenty of excersices to practice. Very well done and well structured. Each lesson is about 10 minutes and it takes about 3 or 4 days (about 30 to 60 minutes a day) to complete a lesson. It covers the present, past, future, present perfect, and other verb tenses. Great explaining the plural, adjective, adverbs, etc. I have listened to many other language courses for different languages, but this one is the best. Just because it is the best it does not mean that learning a language is effortless, you have to work at it and practice a lot.
I think this is the best programme I've found in Italian. I downloaded several others as well (including Pymsler's) but none of those convinced me as much as All-Audio Italian. I like the speed in it, that you do not have to linger at a particular type of conjugation for ages... they tell you once how to do it, and that's it. If you need repetition, just rewind. But I don't think any of these programmes suffice on their own. A good grammar book is also needed. This programme helps you with pronunciation, some good travel tips, and gives a good insight into the way Italians converse. It's no miracle, but if you really need an audio programme, choose this, the others are nowhere near.
This audio book uses what I think are the normal methods of teaching a language and really doesn't do anything new. I didn't get to listen a ton before I went to Italy, but what I learned got me around more or less. It's a little too fast, but if you're familiar with French or Spanish, it'll probably work alright. If I hadn't taken 3 years of Spanish it wouldn't have helped a lot.
The sistem is excellent for a self-study activity. I can revise and improve my english and at the same time I´m learning Italian. All this can be done while I´m performing another kind of activity. Anyhow the program couold be improved making easier functions such as forwarding rewinding. But in general the system is very satisfactory.
I am not enjoying the speed or the method. I hope it will stick, but it doesn't look good. I will be trying pylmsners next. I don't like that it doesn't go over pronounciation at all. Just over the words hoping that you say them right.
The best way to teach languages remains a mystery, unsolved by this program. I love languages but hated this. A waste. I hope that I good one comes along.
This lesson is great, IF you've had the benefit of something else before. I've done all of the Pimsleur lessons, plus some others. This one is great for filling in the details like grammar, including the tenses that I hadn't learned before.
