Cher lecteur, tu viens sans doute de prendre ce livre et tu l'entames par la fin, ou plutôt par ce petit texte à la fin, à seule fin d'y détecter le fin mot de l'histoire ou cherchant peut-être à savoir si la fin est vraiment la fin, autrement dit la fin de la série qui commençait par tout commence mal. Sans pour autant être une fin de série, ce livre est en effet le dernier tome des désastreuses aventures des orphelins Baudelaire, et je ne saurais trop t'en déconseiller la lecture, même si tu as trouvé le courage d'ingurgiter les douze tomes précédents. Du début à la fin, la fin n'est qu'une série d'abominations, dont une tempête du style fin du monde, un breuvage à donner le tournis et du poisson cru en bouillie, sans parler de moutons sauvages, d'une cage à oiseaux rococo et de perturbants mystères au sujet des parents Baudelaire. Je m'étais fait un devoir de relater par le menu l'histoire de ces orphelins et ma mission touche à sa fin. De ton côté, libre lecteur, tu as sans doute d'autres missions et si j'étais toi je m'abstiendrais de lire la fin, de crainte que cette fin ne m'achève. Avec mes sentiments respectueux.
