Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The story of the phenomenon that is Kraftwerk and how they revolutionised our cultural landscape.

'We are not artists nor musicians. We are workers.'

Ignoring nearly all rock traditions, experimenting in near-total secrecy in their Düsseldorf studio, Kraftwerk fused sound and technology, graphic design and performance, modernist Bauhaus aesthetics and Rhineland industrialisation - even human and machine - to change the course of modern music. This is the story of Kraftwerk as a cultural phenomenon, who turned electronic music into avant-garde concept art and created the soundtrack to our digital age.

This is top-tier music criticism. Intellectually stimulating and beautifully read for this audiobook. I will certainly listen to this again.

Exceptional!!!

Trans Europe Express was my introduction in 1980 and has been a fan ever since . There is no doubt that Kraftwerk is the innovators of our music. They are ground zero for all music today. Not only learning so much of them but the history of their country as well. Happy I seen them live in 2022 in Florida for 3D Tour.... Kraftwerk forever!!!

concise and highly informative

Excellent analysis of Kraftwerk - the reader does a great job, and I loved both the discussion of Kraftwerk's classic albums and their world tours. The author provided some great information to help understand the European and German references in Kraftwerk - at 6 hours, just a great listen.

Not just for die hard fans of Kraftwek

This book gives a very interesting description of the background of Kraftwerk (artistic, social, political' "German") , talks about the concept behind the band and about their hugely important legacy.
It is not overly academic, it is quite entertaining and will quickly send you back to the great music of Kraftwerk, this time with a much better understanding of the depth and concept.
The narration is also excellent.
Highly recommended, not just for Robots and Man Machines, but also for regular Humans.
