Publisher's summary

In the final book of the Ash and Sand trilogy, Ruka, son of Beyla, faces the emperor of the world, yet even victory may not save his people...

With the death of his ally, Farahi Alaku, Ruka - Godtongue - is alone. Or not exactly...

The island prince Kale Alaku now haunts his mind, rattling within his once peaceful Grove, promising revenge and growing every moment in power. Meanwhile, the Pyu isles are in chaos; the coastal kingdom of the Tong is still Ruka’s enemy; and every day that passes brings the empire closer to destroying his dream of a new world for his people.

Once again, the son of Beyla will need the strength of his dark twin, Bukayag. Perhaps together they can unite three peoples, gather an army of ash, and defend or destroy their way to peace. But in the end, there can be only one king of heaven...

Savage. Beautiful. A true work of art.

The fact a series with such brutal characters was able to leave me with tears in my eyes as I listened to the epilogue, in itself, says a lot. I loved this. I'm not one to get teary. Ruka has become one of, if not my favorite character in all of fiction.

Thank you to the narrator and to Richard Nell for bringing me these hours of joy.

Do not make the mistake I have in the past, of dismissing a book due to its lack of popularity.

This is just about as good as it gets.

10/10 absolute banger

I can honestly say this series was top 3 for me. Absolutely phenomenal. Combination of joe Abercrombie, Sanderson and a dash of rothfuss

One of the best series I’ve ever experienced

An amazing ending to one of my new favorite series. Everything about this wonderful story from the writing to the narration was excellent, I found this series by chance and now may have a new favorite author.

What a ride

It’s been hard for me lately to find a book that I fall in love with, that I become obsessed with. I’m so glad my brother in law told me to give this series a try. I loved the characters and the story, it was gritty without being depressing. Definitely one of my favorites of all time.

New loved author added to Gwynne, Abercrombie, Sanderson, etc..
Excellent story, lime the hero/anti-hero twist.

Excellent

Nell's third installment of the Ash and Sand trilogy delivers a satisfying conclusion with twists, heartache, and hope. The narration continues to excel and one could only hope for possibly a prequel, sequel, or another story from this world. Nell clearly knew how he wanted to conclude the series, at least by appearance, as the characters remain consistent and reach their arcs .

awesome end to a grimdark tale

What do you do when the anti hero becomes a hero because theres noone else who understands whats at stake? You want to hate him, you want to fear him but you understand the path of blood was the only way. i loved the way this ended and i was so conflicted about what i felt. it didnt feel like i was bullied into feeling this was the way alot of movies and books try to. Hats off to Richard Nell for making an overly critical grimdark fan like myself feel all the feels and be satisfied with the ending. Loved it!
