Editorial reviews

Christopher Evan Welch's strong and spirited presentation enhances this outstanding tale. Welch skillfully presents the appealing Tom Ward as he learns the ins and outs of being a spook's apprentice. Most exciting is Tom's verbal sparring with some very creepy-sounding tricksters. A bit of fun enters an otherwise dark story when the cat who does the cooking purrs as her delicious cooking is complimented by hungry men. Conversations about Tom's family and his mixed reaction to being saved by Alice Dean bring reality to the story. The conclusion assures listeners that the next installment will answer their many questions.

Publisher's summary

"I've already drunk my fill of blood, so live a little longer. Breathe for a while and watch what's about to unfold."

Thomas Ward has spent two years as the Spook's apprentice. He's faced unimaginable peril, and survived. But a new danger has emerged: an ancient water witch, Bloodeye, is roaming the County intent on destroying everything in her path. To strengthen his skills, Tom is sent to the far north to train with the demanding Bill Arkwright.

Arkwright lives in a haunted mill on the edge of a treacherous marsh, and his training methods prove to be harsh and sometimes cruel. Will Tom's new bag of tricks be enough to overcome a critical mistake that leaves him confronting Bloodeye on his own?

Wrath of the Bloodeye

Appreciate Tom Ward is sent to be “toughened up” by Gregory’s former apprentice Bill Arkwright. And master Arkwright is hard man, who is haunted by more than ghosts he lets live in his home. Between the tension between Tom and Bill, and genuinely scary villain, this novel is amazing. A perfect 10.

Wrath of the Bloodeye

This was excellent! I have physically read the other "Last Apprentice" books and was hesitant to listen to this one but I am delighted with it. the author kept the listeners attention and the reader, Welch, did an excellent job narrating it. I will keep following this author via audiobooks rather than purchasing the physical copy. It is much more interesting.

Great YA Spooky Series

This is a great series. Unfortunately, Audible has dropped the ball on this one. While they have books 1, 2, and 3... this is not book 4, it's book 5, and book 4 (The Last Apprentice: Attack of the Fiend) is currently found nowhere on the site.

So if you are going for the whole series be prepared to miss one, or read it in print.

Doesn't disappoint - great sequel

I enjoy this series and the narrator, which thankfully has remained the same for all 4. This fourth book has plenty of scary but not as much 'ick' as the others. It spends time developing the characters more, especially the boy, as if it is starting new again - in fact you could enjoy this one and not be lost without reading the others first. But if you liked the others you will not be disappointed with this one. It ends with a great cliffhanger (though you may guess the new surprise before it is revealed) which tells us there will be another book coming - and that is good news
