Exceedingly entertaining

If you could sum up Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) in three words, what would they be?

Hilarious English humor

Who was your favorite character and why?

Montmorency, of course

Any additional comments?

I am so glad that I listened to this version instead of any other. Narrator Martin Jarvis is incredibly talented and his tone and inflections are perfect. The story itself is fabulously funny, but the narration adds to it tremendously. I do love Connie Willis's book "To Say Nothing of the Dog," and this original tale is a great companion to it. If you haven't yet read it, I highly recommend it.

Funniest reading

Excellent narration of an amazing story. Both the author and the narrator painted quite a good picture out of the story. Martin Jarvis never failed to establish that he is 'Jerome' in the story. His funny expressions and his voice gave the story an imaginable colour. Loved it.

Funny story. wonderful performance

This is just as funny as I've always heard it was. The delightful misadventures of this little boating party will have you laughing out loud. Martin Jarvis' performance is note perfect for the material.

Beautiful writing, beautiful reading

This classic proves that great literature needn't be hard work. It is light, funny, thoughtful, informative and , occassionally , deep. There are magnificent one liners and great characters - especially Montmorency.

The reading is excellent. Martin Jarvis was born to read English humour and when the stuff he is reading is a as good as this the only problem is that there isn't more of it.

Dry British humor

The narrator is excellent & makes the book. It's not laugh out loud funny if that is the comedy you're looking for. The 3 men & Montmorency were great companions on our brief journey together.

This is my favorite book.

This book is a gem, and this narration is a delight! I love the digressions and the author's self-conscious humour. The narrator definitely does the book justice, sometimes singing, sometimes making sound effects, never monotonous but always keeping true to the tone of the story. You won't regret this purchase!

delightful and funny

This is a classic. A hilarious text on its own, the narration doubles the value of the story. A performance that makes the work more accessible through perfect characterization and tone. Amazing!

Unique, gentle humour for all

'Three Men In A Boat' was a hit when published and it is still now. The story of George, Harris and Jack rowing up the Thames river for their summer holiday comes full of comical moments and delightful observations. Most importantly, you will laugh out loud lots and lots. This book is not just for children, it is for all.

just a gem!

had first listened to this wonderful book in a distracted manner... only realizing how great it was toward the end ... so i listened to it again "straight away", as the Brits would say~
although the references to "the bustle of the 19th century" sound quaint, it really brings home how "the more things change, the more they stay the same"... Jerome's witty stories illustrating human nature are so funny and so right on, i laughed out loud. the historical notes along their travelogue down the Thames are also wonderful, as the 3 young men take a boat outing one summer. just a wonderful treat~ i recommend it highly! (it does help to understand British English).

the absolute funniest book I have ever heard...

This is now one of my favorite books of all time! I even convinced my wife to read it and now we quote lines from it. I don't think that I have ever laughed so hard while listening to an audiobook. It's uncanny how a book written so long ago can still apply to today. This is a must read for those who could use a good laugh.
