    "Theodore Boone: The Abduction"

I enjoyed the first book in this series Theodore Boone: The Kid Lawyer so decided to listen to this one also. Glad I did. Richard Thomas does a good job narrating the story. This story is advertised for children but adults will enjoy it also. It is a short story that leaves one feeling good. It is nice to see a 13 year old with such a focus on what he wants to do with his life. Enjoyed the scenes in animal court in both books. This one particularly was funny. You will enjoy this book for a 4 hour trip with the family.

    "A kids story??!! Who knew?"

I just see now that other reviewers have noted this is a kids story. Huh! Maybe that's the reason I didn't care for it -- I don't recall seeing, anywhere on Audible, that this was intended for kids. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have bought it, that's for sure. Anyway, the official blurb calls the book "pause-resistant" which is a major joke. It's a total sleeper -- not a bad little story, I guess. Just that in the scheme of things, it doesn't matter. There's nothing to keep you listening other than inertia -- and the fact that you paid for it. It's not bad. It's just ....... nothing. If there is an upside, it was listening to Richard Thomas read, and reminding myself, over and over, how much I enjoyed the Walton's, back then. Welcome back, John-Boy. That part was fun. (Overall? "move over, Hardy Boys!"

Our family enjoys Theodore Boone, boy lawyer. We hope that Mr.Grisham will continue to write more of these stories. We especially enjoy seeing the courtroom from Theo's perspective.

    "Good Grisham for Kids!"

John Grisham, with his Theo Boone series, has proven again that he's a master of the legal genre, and that he can even make it fun for younger readers.
Richard Thomas does a good job of reading, without trying to fake a bunch of character voices.

    "Beginning to Really Enjoy These!"
    Any additional comments?

In the first of the series "Kid Lawyer", used to the many twists, turns, false trails of the adult mysteries I so love, the ending was too easy to see. Now I'm more used to Grisham's writing style, am okay with the way he handles the denouement, and trust his clues. It is clear and straightforward plotting; you don't have to worry or get tense. In this, the second of the series, the author picks up with Theo's best friend, whom we metalbeit a bit too briefly, in "Kid Lawyer", April in Paris, as she likes to call herself, an artist in a very dysfunctional family situation. They talk or text nearly everyday. Theo is a good listener, and believes in her, and trusts in the importance of friendship even when he would like to help her, but can't. Suddenly, she turns up missing, and no one, even hersomewhat scatty mother can find where she might be. Watch Theo's black sheep uncle;he has moments of real brilliance, and though he's made mistakes that took him from astellar career into a present come-down job of tax preparation, he is a figure now of practical wisdom, and self- acceptance, who accepts the consequences of his actions and lives pretty comfortably with them. He is also deeply committed to his family, and willing to go far out of his way to help Theo solve the crime. Oh, one feature that is becoming a hallmark, and an hilarious one, is Theo's volunteer lawyerly work in Animal Court. The first one was a nice touch, and colorfully amusing, but this one is hilarious, and I'm looking forward to this appearance in every story! I do recommend starting at the beginning with the series for best familiarity with the characters, plot continuities, andfuller enjoyment. I shall continue myself!

    "Booring"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I am not sure who would enjoy this. I was waiting for a twist, a plot, some excitment and it was so dissapointing.

Would you ever listen to anything by John Grisham again?

Yes, but I'd have to really read other readers comments. I rely heavily on them

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narration was fine with what he had to work with.

    Any additional comments?

A real dud for a mystery novel.

    "Interesting Storyline, Good Plot"
Would you listen to Theodore Boone: The Abduction again? Why?

This is an interesting book, and I would listen to it again. I often listen the second time while traveling in my car; and even if some of the story is missed because of distractions, it isn't necessary to back it up to follow the continued action.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Theodore Boone is the star of this series and is my favorite character because of his attention to detail and procedural knowledge of the law.

Have you listened to any of Richard Thomas’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Richard Thomas does a good job narrating the story and placing emphasis where needed. He has a well modulated voice and a steady reading/telling pace. I listen to all audio books at 1.5 speed - and don't miss a word of his messages - he doesn't sound like Donald Duck at that speed. I would listen to him again - he is an asset to your organization.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Theodore is an in-charge character, and some of his sound judgments are indeed amusing.

    No
