Publisher's summary

Voted number one in "Smart Novels to Read Your Kids". (Goodreads)

What would you do if you discovered nothing was as you thought and the fate of your friends, perhaps even the world, was in your hands? That’s the reality Peter must face in the middle Grade novel, The Viking’s Apprentice.

Campbell’s Cove is a small town surrounded in mystery and intrigue. The history of the Cove tells us of dragons, trolls, goblins and the evil Master who stole children, livestock and, strangest of all, eggs from the Cove every year. Aided by the hideous monster, Tolldruck there seemed no stopping their evil plan. That was until, centuries ago, a Viking warrior came to Campbell’s Cove and vowed to rid it of all evil, and claim the prize offered by the mysterious church elders. The Viking succeeded and everything returned to normal. The evil was gone, and Campbell’s Cove was safe again… Until now.

When Peter and George visit Peter’s Granddad’s amazing mansion in Campbell’s Cove for the summer holidays they had no idea it would change their lives forever. Deep beneath them in the caves of the Cove an evil has returned, an evil which threatens to destroy everything they believed to be true about the world. Peter must learn who he really is, and what he must do to save the children of the Cove. Together with George and his Granddad they go on a journey that reveals secrets, test friendships and confronts their biggest fears. Can Peter save the children? Can the Master be stopped? Find out in The Viking’s Apprentice.

Blew Me Away! Great Fantasy Series!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Viking's Apprentice to be better than the print version?

Yes I would. This narrator brings something to the story that you just don't get by reading it. The life that she gave to each of the characters is unique and special and I found my self caring more for them hearing the story than I did as compared to when I read the story.

What other book might you compare The Viking's Apprentice to and why?

The Lightning Thief comes to mind as he is a young boy who find his world is really not what is seems to be and he has a legacy that he is due to inherit.

What about Danielle Cohen’s performance did you like?

I thought at first for a story about a Viking that having a female narrator was an odd choice but I was oh so very wrong the narrator does just a stunning job. This narrator brings something to the story that you just don't get by reading it. The life that she gives to each of the characters is unique and special and I found my self caring more for them hearing the story than I did as compared to when I read the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes this is a short book that I listened to in one day during my morning and evening walks making the walks enjoyable.

Action and Adventure..

Any additional comments?

Peter, the main character, visits his grandfather for the summer, during that time a series of adventurous events occur.

There are several twists throughput the story line.

Overall, this book is a Good Read filled with Action and Adventure for younger children as well as pre-teens.

Danielle Cohen did ok with the narration.

A terrific fantasy series for all ages

THE VIKING'S APPRENTICE

Genre: Middle Grade Fantasy

Release Date: March 19, 2015

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

* I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

First off I have to say that there is something about a narrator with an English accent that lends itself very well to the fantasy genre. It adds a sense of the different (and therefore exotic) to those of us in North America.

Peter and George have just completed public school. Next stop is high school, but first they are looking forward to a summer of freedom and adventure.

As with every other summer, Peter will be spending it visiting his grandfather, but this time he gets to bring his friend George with him.

The two boy's arrive in Campbell's Cove which is not your average village.

Viking longships, knights, immortal vikings, dragons, goblins, trolls, witches, ogres and more exist in secret deep within the caves.

"This little village hides many secrets and has many fine tales to tell." - Grandad

This is an exciting fantasy/adventure tale that readers of all ages will enjoy. As far as I am aware, there are three books in this series so far and I will be adding all of them to my "To Read" shelf.

I rate both the story and the narration as 5 out of 5 stars. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Young adult fantasy at its finest

Vikings, stories, myths and legends, dragons, trolls, witches, griffons and lore. The author and narrator deliver a tale fit for all ages in the first in a wonderfully crafted series about a boy and his grandfather. Can't wait to read more. A great middle school adventure!

Anytime I receive adventure takes where an every day child can become a hero, my son and I dive right in. Thanks to McLeod's post on Twitter, I found f fantastic read. The story is nicely written, the description was perfect and the excitement was real. Even the narrator was good. 👍🏾

it's not worth the trouble to buy, it's a mediocre writing , with below average style and nothing much to mention that stands out.
