Streep lends her amazingly talented voice to the story of a stuffed bunny who is a boy's favorite toy but yearns to be real. The characters come to life through the artistry of her performance, enhanced by celebrated musician George Winston's original piano score.
Let Rabbit Ears take you on the magical journey from toy chest to reality in this extraordinary version of The Velveteen Rabbit.

"Streep's narration, delivered in a crisp British accent, is also remarkable, shifting from the Velveteen Rabbit and the boy's guileless characters to the cheeky wild rabbits to the gruff Nana without ever sounding overly theatrical. With just Streep's voice and Winston's piano, the duo creates a beautifully realized version of this story of love's transformative power." (All Music Guide)
I had this on tape as a child and managed to track it down on audible years later, and it truly is magical. Not only is it beautifully read by Meryl Streep, but the addition of George Winston's breathtaking music makes this one of my favorite audio books! This is a fantastic listen for children and adults alike.
Voracious reader on just about anything: both popular and esoteric.
I never get tired of this tale!
Meryl Streep's narration is awesome.
The background music is too loud in some parts though, I can't hardly hear her.
Cute short story that will make you want to cry and laugh at the same time. Love the spiritual tone of this story. Well read with the addition of music to aid in the experience. Loved it!
I read this book a few years - mainly because of the illustrations - but could not find it again so downloaded the read version. This version is absolutely wonderful - Meryl Streep is totally convincing as the Rabbit and her accent is perfectly suited to the book - quite English. Her account of the conversation between the Velveteen Rabbit and the real rabbits is a gem. Also of course her actual voice is delightful...
The music is a great addition - although at first I thought it would be a nuisance. I must have listened to the dancing rabbits at least 10 times so far (I've had the recording for 3 days!) - thank goodness this is not a vynil record.
