In The Field Guide, twins Jared and Simon and their older sister, Mallory, aren't all that impressed with the ramshackle old mansion their mother moves them to when their decidedly kooky Great Aunt Lucinda is sent to an asylum. But a series of mysterious events within the house leads the three young Graces to an old book filled with hand drawn pictures of all kinds of fantastic creatures. Jared believes the book holds the key to all the freaky goings on (for which he has been blamed).
In The Seeing Stone, the Grace kids are just beginning to get used to Aunt Lucinda's strange old mansion when Simon disappears. At first, Mallory thinks that her younger bother Simon is pulling some kind of prank. But when it becomes obvious that he's been snatched by goblins, Jared and his sister have to rely on the help of a mischevious house boggart, a nasty bridge troll, and a loud mouthed hobgoblin to get him back!
Don't miss more stories in the Spiderwick Chronicles.

This is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to. Normally I read books but we were on our way to a family summer vacation and so we all listened as my dad drove. The six hour drive was made so much better with this audio book. I can't wait to hear and read the other volumes of this series.
We listened to these books on our way back from vacation. The hour long adventures seemed to fly by faster than the miles home. The stories spur on the imagination into a world where all of the fantasy creatures you have ever imagined come to life. This imaginary world overlaps the very real world of the non-traditional family of a Mother and her three children. The Spiderwick Chronicles is a classic tale where any child, or anyone who has been one, dreams of discovering a secret world that flies under the radar of the adults around them. The whole family is looking forward to the next set of books.
It's nice to find a story (or two) that the whole family can enjoy in the car. The stories are short and lively. Now the kids want to read the rest of the chronicles!
Okay listen but not much of a story. If fantasy and adventure are what you are looking for, there are much better stories available. I would recommend starting with Journey Beyond the Beyond or Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches. Then continuing on to In the Service of Dragons and Chronicles of Narnia.
This review is for all the Spiderwick chronicles. I was turned off by the narrator at first but wow was i wrong... Reading the books is fun, but listening to Mark Hamill create all the characters was like watching a really great movie. He brings you into this book as if it were alive with all the different incredible voices he does this is truly a treat!
The Chronicles are fun and enjoyable for all ages. I'll admit that in the beginning I had some misgivings about the Narrator but I shouldn't have; he did a great job. I would recommend getting the entire set and listening to the entire story arc back to back because, individually, each volume reads more like a chapter than a complete story.
Yes, it's a great little story, but too expensive. The ending wrapped up an adventure so could be a stand alone book
Likes: Cozy mysteries, esp w/cats, books on workings of the brain/autism, not-too-dark fantasy. Dislikes: Animal cruelty, torture scenes.
It is hard to review the Spiderwick Chronicles separately since they all form one story. These are a light and quick listen. I loved Mark Hamill's performance, especially of the character Hogsqueal. I like that Jared, Simon and Mallory all manage to have distinct personalities despite this being a short kids' story. This volume contains Book One The Field Guide and Book 2 The Seeing Stone. Book 1 introduces us to the characters and the concept of the magical world all around us and Book 2 The Seeing Stone covers the kids first action packed foray out into a world with Trolls and Goblins. (If your kids are super sensitive keep in mind Goblins' diets include cats.) Plan to continue right on to Volume 2.

My son and I have listened to this a number of times and we love it every time.
I would recommend this audiobook to a friend because the sound quality was surprisingly very good and the book itself is full of imagination and adventure!
When Jacob discovers that there is a fairy world.
The voices and characters come to life!
This has already been made into a book.
This was my first audiobook for my Kindle. I was really impressed with the sound quality. We hooked speakers to my kindle and the kids listened to the book on our long drive to Disneyland. They loved the story!!
