I'm a big fan of SF/F/Horror, and all things in between and out.
I read a bunch of the Hardy Boys books when I was a kid, and my kids have loved rediscovering both these and Nancy Drew mysteries on Audible. I've ended up listening to most of them with them, and with this one -- I felt like the Hardy Boys audiobooks really hit its stride, making it the most entertaining of the Hardy Boys series. Irwin gives mostly a straight read, but his Chet Morton is hilarious, and while the brothers help bust a stolen car ring with the help of their friends, Chet becomes a vegetarian (FOR SCIENCE!!!) and also plays a significant part in stopping the thieves. If you want one ride back down the road of nostalgia, this is your best bet.
These books are pretty standard from a story perspective and without much characterization. Narrator Bill Irwin is the MVP here, somehow managing to make it all very listenable despite the books' shortcomings. Still, the boys getting to solve mysteries when the grown-ups can't (or at least, can't do it alone) is fun times for my kids.
My kids love all the Hardy Boys, especially ones narrated by Irwin. Ages 4-8 love listening to all available stories by him.
Get story don't let your Dad tell the endings. This is not for Dads.or mom's this is for detective kids.
Fun, brilliant and wildly entertaining. Wherever they go, no matter what, there's always something. A mystery worth listening to, again and again.
