My son and my daughter both loved this!

I have (almost) 8 year old twins, a boy and a girl. We listened to this book in the car over spring break and it was darling! It had adventure, and intrigue which kept them both hanging on every word. But what I really liked was the "folksy" way the book was written with values that seem to have fallen to the wayside in this day and age. I think the copywright was from 1950 but my children didn't even notice it was 60 years old! From a parent perspective it was truly refreshing to listen to a wholesome book. This was a nice treat and we'll keep listening to the Trixie Belden series.

A new Trixie Belden fan!

I just finished this first Trixie Belden adventure and enjoyed it thoroughly. Somehow I missed these while growing up, but am going to catch up real soon as Audible releases more of the series. The narrator is wonderful, the characters believable and likeable. For a book obviously set in the 1940s, it's timeless...a great story of youngsters spending their summer having fun in the outdoors. No video games or shopping malls here! A great listen for a 47 year old as well as pre-teeners. Would make a wonderful vacation trip listen for a family. Thank you Audible for obtaining these!

terrible voice characterizations

Trixie Belden was a favorite of mine when I was a kid, so I thought I'd relive part of my childhood by listening to this book. The reader's voice bordered on being shrill, and her attempts to change voices for each character were a dismal failure...especially her contrived Southern accents.

wonderful memories

I read (and reread) all of this series as a child and it was great to hear them so well presented in an audible format.

Trixie Belden - Girl Sleuth

The Trixie Belden series were my favorite books to read as a youngster. I am really excited that at least the first four are available for listening. The narrator is mostly pleasant when reading the text but some of the voices, eg: Honey, Bobby & Miss Trask, are horrid! Even though I don't appreciate the narrator, I hope that more of the titles in the Trixie Belden series become available soon. What a great girl sleuthing adventure series to read ~ OUTSTANDING to listen to!

A childhood favorite

My mom and dad got me these for Christmas when I was 10 years old. I started out with five in the series. I ended up reading them all and could not wait until the next one came out. This audio version was really good. The narrator did a good job. I just felt the need to walk down memory lane.

Why the Southern Accents?

Why do all the men have Southern accents? It's distracting and confusing, as they sound like the same person. Their voices are all delivered in the same slow drawl, in low tones. As a result, the story grinds to a halt whenever a man speaks, as the reader has to figure out who is speaking. For example, when the girls are hiding in the summerhouse, a man's voice calls to them to come out. I was certain that it was Regan, the groom, looking for the girls, but it was Mr. Rainsford, the lawyer. When Honey says that she knows him, I thought, yes, Honey, it's Regan; the man identifies himself, but it was hard to accept who he was when he spoke.

Another related question would be why all of the adult males in upstate NY sound like they are from GA or the Carolinas. There is nothing about this in the text, which indicates that it was the choice of the reader. Why did she decide on this confusing performance? I understand that it must be difficult to perform the varied voices in the text, but having all of the male characters, from Mr. Belden to Mr. Rainsford, have Southern accents was only a distracted from the story.

Wholesome and cute

My mother and her cousin used to read these stories in the 50’s and 60’s and she read them all to me in the 80s and 90s. I had all of the original books from my mother’s childhood that unfortunately burned in a fire 10 years ago. I was so excited to find them on here and have a listen!! Fond memories and such cute stories of Trixie and her gang!!
