Publisher's Summary

After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly quiet. His biggest problem is dealing with his new friend, Tyson, a six-foot-three, mentally challenged homeless kid who follows Percy everywhere, making it hard for Percy to have any "normal" friends.

Don't miss the other titles in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

What the Critics Say

"Adventure follows chaotic adventure at a rapid pace, and readers with even a passing acquaintance with the Odyssey will enjoy this fresh use of familiar stories." (School Library Journal)

    "Decent story, but predictable"

The narrator doesn't get the inflection on several characters right. His interpretation of how they sound and how they emotionally say their lines is way off. He makes the strong daughter of Athena, who smacks of hubris, whinny. It just doesn't fit. If you can look past it, it's a decent story.

    "Good, Clean, Fun!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Sea of Monsters to be better than the print version?

Sorry. I'm not a print reader, they put me to sleep.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sea of Monsters?

Nothing stuck out more, the whole book, to me, was enjoyable.

Have you listened to any of Jesse Bernstein’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I'll look for others.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Like I said earlier, the whole book was entertaining.

    Any additional comments?

I've seen the first movie, and now heard the 2nd book. Just got the 3rd book of the series and am ready to start it. Great job Rick, thank you!

I started listening to this series so I can have something to talk to my nephew about and now I'm a complete fan. What a great series! Entertaining and funny. Leaves you feeling good at the end and wanting more.

    Story
"An almost child's version of The Odyssey"
What did you love best about The Sea of Monsters?

I have always enjoyed the book the odyssey and when I read this book it reminded me of a modern day one. I love the fact that we get to learn more about annabeth and her background. We haven't learned too much about her with the first novel but it was great to learn more.

What did you like best about this story?

I love how the entire book has a lot of the islands visited on the odyssey journey. I think that the way that Mr. Riordan made it was simply amazing. It was so humorous and entertaining.

What does Jesse Bernstein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Jesse Bernstein is simply as I must state it the voice of Percy Jackson. He is my favorite out of all of the narrators for Percy. I'm getting more use to annabeth's voice but I love his Percy voice. Tyson is done great as well. I really get the feel of Tyson when he does the voice as well.

    Any additional comments?

The difference between reading it and listening to it is amazing. I'm sure that any if not most percy jackson fans would enjoy listening to this.
