What is there to say, I am a 40-something professional man with kids who like to listen to light books while on the bus to work.

    "Very entertaining and delightful listen"

While on vacation and driving the length of California back up from San Diego I downloaded this book for my family to listen to as we drove the long slog of I5. What a great choice!!! My 5 year old daughter was engrossed by this story and did not speak a peep for 6 hours straight as we drove the last 400 miles from Northern Cali to Washington. My wife was also engrossed and for the first time on that vacation I was able to experience a bit of quiet, the whole family quietly listened to the antics of Ramona and enjoyed her little story.
About the story itself...I never read these books as a child so was unfamiliar with them when I started. Basically this series follows the growth of a precocious little girl, named Ramona, and all her little innocent escapades as she grows up. The first book starts with Ramona age 4 and each subsequent book she is a year older. (well.. at least so far, we have only gotten through 4 books) Nothing huge happens here, no monsters need defeating, no saving the world, just little Ramona trying to learn how to grow up and be a good person. Her trials are things like not being sure her kindergarten teacher likes her, or dealing with the fallout of a bad tantrum. They are small things, but they are told beautifully and I actually think my 5 (soon to be 6) year old daughter enjoyed them all the more because she could so well relate to the feelings (and trials) Ramona was having and experiencing. As adults, my wife and I found the stories endearing and funny as the exploits of Ramona are very familiar to anybody who has had (or has) young children. Ms. Channing’s performance is wonderful, and she really brings to life all the characters. I highly recommend this series for anybody with young children. One thing though, Ms. Cleary sometimes gives away (or almost) the secrets of things like Santa Claus/tooth fairy/etc... Early in this series Ramona loses a tooth and Ms. Cleary alludes to (but does not actually explicitly reveal) Daddy being the actual tooth fairy, that part takes about 2 min....you can easily see it coming and you may want to skip ahead if you want to make sure that you can preserve that little fiction.

    "We LOVE Ramona!"

My kids and I listened to the entire Ramona series together. Stockard Channing is the perfect narrator for this book and the performance was consistent throughout. As Ramona grew, Channing's interpretation of the character grew appropriately. It was a delightful listen.

Beverly Cleary's beloved stories of Ramona were so entertaining I found myself laughing out loud at the characters' antics. I could identify with the children both from memories of my own childhood and as a mom, which led to me sharing stories of funny things I did as a girl and things my kids had done when they were smaller. Ramona is best shared with the kids--they should not be the only ones getting to read about her!

As soon as it ended, both kids wanted me to dowload and listen to the Henry Huggins series, which I promised we would do this summer.

    "Best kids books ever!"

These stories are the perfect combination of funny, embarrassing, and sometimes a little scary and sad, just like childood itself. Ramona is no brat. She always has the best intentions, but her curiosity and creativity tend to land her in trouble. She is often confused and bewildered when her good intentions meet an unfriendly reception. Still, Ramona is surrounded by loving and supporting adults, and she always pulls through fine.

My seven-year-old daughter listens to these stories every day. She emphatically agrees when Ramona says, "Being seven and half years old is not easy!"

I love the narration. Stockard Channing takes up Ramona's voice with sympathy and great humor. She really brings the characters to life without being overly dramatic.

I favor history, non-fiction, lectures, and the occasional purely fictitious work. I also listen to many children's books with my family.

"We love Ramona... all five of us!"

I read Ramona as a kid and so did my wife. I'm pleased to say the stories hold up ... more than hold up, they are great.

We listened to all 19 hours on a couple of road trips we took over the past year and there was never a time when any of my kids (boy 5, boy 7 and girl 10) complained about listening to tales about Ramona.

I was relatively familiar with the older books, having read them forever ago, but the newer ones were (un-shockingly) excellent.

Stockard Channing's narration is perfect and the tales have ups and downs for the Quimby family, but they learn and love and live and we laugh and cry and smile.

Thanks Beverly Cleary for giving us Ramona and Beezus and Henry and Risby and Picky-Picky and "Yard Ape" and all the rest!

*Highly Recommended* for families and kids of all ages (even pushing 40).

    "Great Stories (Audio Warning)"
    Any additional comments?

I have a six year-old who loves these stories. She routinely loves to retell the stories to me and especially funny parts; so there is good humor in these. I've listened with her and enjoyed the stories. I recommend this series.

Audio warning... this collection does not divide and label the books. There are chapter breaks, but the books run right into each other. It makes it very hard to find an individual book.

"Give it a second chance - the stories are great"

I returned this book as soon as I heard Stockard Channing's Ramona voice. It was awful. Then, I got Neil Patrick Harris' reading of Beverly Cleary's Henry Huggins. It was amazing. The whole family enjoyed his performance, but also re-learned to love the Ramona character. We gave it a second chance, and, while Stockard Channing's Ramona voice still annoyed me, I was able to get past it, and the whole family enjoyed the stories, so I re-purchased it.

    "I love the Ramona Series"
If you could sum up The Ramona Quimby Audio Collection in three words, what would they be?

Stockard Channing is one of my favorite readers. She does an amazing job with the Ramona Series. I have listened to these books since I was a little kid, they are so entertaining!

    "Wonderful stories, solid narration"

My daughter and I listened to this on the drive to and from school, as well as on a couple of weekend road trips, and it was a delight. Stockard Channing does a great job with all of the voices, and we enjoyed all of them, well done. I remembered enjoying Beverly Cleary's stories as a child, eagerly awaiting the last few as they were published. Now my daughter is having the same enjoyment.

"If I could give it 10 stars, I would!"
Would you listen to The Ramona Quimby Audio Collection again? Why?

We listen to it over and over again -- it's wonderful!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Howie. Stockard Channing's interpretation of his character is spot-on and she does a great job with his voice.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There are so many... the one where the girls unite to bury the cat made me cry and the one where Ramona ruins both birthday cakes made me laugh for days.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely. My kids ask for it every time we get in the car.

    Any additional comments?

Stockard Channing is the absolute perfect person to narrate this! She does an amazing job with every voice: from petulant 4-yr old Ramona to her world-weary father, and every character in between.
My children are aged six and seven, and I was astonished at how much more empathy I have for their day-to-day experiences after having listened to the entire series. Beverly Cleary has a gift in her ability to make her characters relatable, and every time I find myself losing patience with the kids over something that seems completely inconsequential, I remember poor Ramona. Then I take a deep breath, grin, and put my "listening ears" on.

    "My 5-Year-Old Couldn't Get Enough"
Would you listen to The Ramona Quimby Audio Collection again? Why?

Yes. These books bring back memories from my own childhood, and my 5-year-old daughter greatly enjoyed listening to these books during our car rides. The stories are classic, if a bit dated.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My daughter liked Ramona, of course. She's certainly an interesting character, with an independent mind but a good heart, and she gets herself into all sorts of mischief.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I liked Ramona's interactions with Danny "Yard Ape" in the last couple of books.
