It's pretty good

I like the book. The quality I think is not that bad. And didn't you listen to the beginning? It said it's the "good parts version" which obviously means it is abridged. If you want to know the full story you should buy the book. I thought the original book was a little bit boring, but this version is ok. It is more like the movie than the book.

Didnt match the book

The audible reading didnt match the book. It had the same plot and everything but the audible was different than the book

Classic

Short, but sweet. Surprisingly, the movie is almost word for word to the book. A great read for all ages

Unsuprising, yet delightful

Would you listen to The Princess Bride again? Why?

Yes. This is a listen with the kids, and since we all know the basic storyline, it's good for when the full crew isn't together. That way, nobody feels left out.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think I likes the narrator, if that counts. Probably because the few surprises where the book deviates from the movie were more editorializings from the narrator.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Rob Reiner delivers exactly what you expect. He's not that broad on (non-yiddish) accents in this performance. It felt a little flat, but his pace was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The very last five minutes. The ending of the book was more interesting than the movie.

Any additional comments?

A great listen for ~9 years old and up.

Audible books are GREAT for long trips!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Princess Bride to be better than the print version?

It would depend on your application. I took The Princess Bride purposely on a trip because I had read and enjoyed the book so much that I knew I would enjoy the audible book on our trip and it was a great companion for me because I got the midnight to 4 am shift of driving.

What other book might you compare The Princess Bride to and why?

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card. I love the fantasy and wit.

What about Rob Reiner’s performance did you like?

He was great. Because of his background he was really great for this reading.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Actually it took two sittings.

Any additional comments?

Thanks!

I'm Speechless...But Smiling

If you're a fan of the Princess Bride, this is pretty much a can't-miss listen. If for some absolutely absurdly INCONCEIVABLE notion you're not a fan of the movie, well, you're not going to like this either.

I'm astounded by many revelations this little jewel brought. First, the fact that the book actually is written just like the movie with it's snarky, witty over the top banter. What a pleasant surprise. Finding out that the book was originally written as a form of political satire also vastly intrigued me, and had me listening to the story with a slightly different ear: one that was tuned to pick up more subtle nuances. It was also interesting to learn plot points (such as what actually happened to Inigo Montoya's father) that were not available in the movie version since it was actually abridged because of the political satire. It seems all parts of the book were not really appropriate for young minds. Maybe this book, as they say, really does have a little of everything in it.

All I know is it might not be a long book, but it's a great one. It definitely goes in my "listen to that gem again" section. If you need a little pick me up or want a trip (boy, what a trip) down memory lane, grab this audiobook!
