I am a adult but like to read some young adult books. Many are more imaginative and original than those geared for "adults".
I loved the first book in the series "The Mysterious Benedict Society" and I am not sure if you can really enjoy this one as much without having read that one first. This is particularly true because you learn more about the four main characters in the first and that is where they become part of your "family". This book isn't quite as good as the first but the characters are so lovable and their adventures so enjoyable that you just can't help wanting to hang out with them.
One of the best things about this audio book is the reader Del Roy. Many readers are good even very good but in this case Del Roy is perfect for this series. Its as if he was born to play his part.
The story is a lot of fun if you like a lite but entertaining, funny, exciting, and well crafted tale. The book has the "feeling" of being more exclusively for young adults (it tone is a bit childish at times) but in a good way that adults that like a good story can enjoy as part of the charm.
I'm really satisfied with this book I'm really satisfied with this book I'm really satisfied with this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!YA!!!!!!!!!!!!
A reading family. We enjoy a reading from a variety of family friendly, enlightening works. Mom, Dad, elementary and preschool listeners.
I haven't read the print edition, and while I tend to appreciate the increased ability of the imagination to paint mental pictures without a voice, I can't imagine this series now without Del Ray reading it to me. He is an excellent voice for both young and old to listen to.
Someone who likes The Chronicles of Narnia or Eragon Series would like this. I assume it also runs along with Harry Potter and Leminy Snickett, though we've yet to read those.
Perhaps the best thing about his performance was the feeling you have of him being the most beloved character, Nicholas Benedict. He is gentle and calm, always steady, though with genuine emotion in his tone. His voice is easy to listen to, but unusual enough to not make you sleepy, not to mention the story is captivating.
Yes, for the most part. It kept my 5 year old daughter sitting still with nothing but her ears and mind working for up to 2 hours at a time.
This children's series is engaging, intelligent and hopeful. Good beating evil using ordinary children with extraordinary talents. The underlying messages are careful warnings, not really propaganda, but scenerios are played out using some circumstances that could really occur in our modern times. Decisions are made by these 4-10 year old children that show that good can win, but it requires thought and concern for our fellow men, even those whom you disagree. Cannot recommend this series enough!
Thank you Audible.com for opening the door to reading for my son. He is a very slow reader and would never get the chance to participate in AR tests at his school. Now he reads the book along with the audio and it has improved his reading speed. He has discovered his love for reading!
when ever i read or listen to this book can't help but be amazed by the author
